Xtreme Gaming takes home the lion’s share of the prize pool in the 2024 Games of the Future Dota 2 tournament in Kazan, Russia.

The grand finals match, which happened in the Kazan Expo, saw Xtreme Gaming defeat a fellow team from China, Legend Gaming (LGD), in a 2-0 clean sweep.

The first round, which lasted almost 43 minutes, saw Xtreme Gaming dominate in terms of kills, with Guo “Xm” Hongcheng providing 9 out of the team’s 29 total kills. Xm eventually emerged as the key player for the round for Xtreme Gaming, with a 9/2/12 KDA.

The second round saw another dominating performance from XG, as Xm once again popped off with an 11/3/14 KDA with his Sniper pick. The gap even widened overall in terms of kills this time, at 32-17. The match was quicker, at 38:38.

With the win, Xtreme Gaming widens its overall match win streak against LGD, which started since DPC CN 2023, wherein XG started defeating LGD in global competitive play since April 2023.

The Games of the Future Dota 2 tournament was conducted from February 19 to 25, 2024, and was sponsored by the Russian government. XG is expected to take the lion’s share of the US$1 million prize pool.

The said tournament made waves in the Dota 2 community, and was an avenue for some to protest against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Nigma Galaxy and Nouns were supposed to take part, but later withdrew. G2.iG participated, but used the Invictus Gaming banner. Ukrainian Dota players did not participate, and some players like v1lat threatened to publicize participation of teams in the said tourney to try and make visa processes harder for those who wanted to participate in tourneys in the United States and Europe.
