Will the new Team Vitality roster be successful?

Team Vitality won their first CS:GO Major this year in Paris. Their path to the trophy was a very unusual one because there were numerous upsets throughout the tournament, which gave them a series of unusual opponents to play against. Some might argue that they only played against underdogs in the playoffs.

But after winning the tournament, everyone expected them to continue with the same roster that helped them win the Major. Instead, they benched Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen and signed Shahar “flameZ” Shushan from OG.

This roster move doesn’t make much sense but something caused Vitality to make it. According to dupreeh, he doesn’t have any intention to retire, even though he’s 30 years old. Were his performances in 2022-2023 not good enough? It’s hard to tell. What we do know is that Vitality won trophies with him on the active roster.

Another thing that we can say is that Vitality tend to get heavily carried by Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Lotan “Spinx” Giladi. Given that Spinx is Israeli, the addition of another Israeli to the roster might improve communication and cohesion, at least in Spinx’s case.

What is in question, however, is flameZ’s ability to replace dupreeh. Let’s not forget that he was part of the team for one and a half years, and that Danny “zonic” Sorensen and Emil “Magisk” Reif are both good friends of his. For the two of them, his departure cannot possibly be a good thing.

Vitality’s future

The only reason why we should be optimistic about Vitality’s future is that dupreeh was not the main star of the team. In fact, he was only the 3^rd or 4^th best player. As long as ZywOo and Spinx do not leave the club, Vitality is likely to continue to have a great CS:GO team that can obtain spectacular results.

Zonic is also instrumental and should not be let go under any circumstances. His experience is vast and he is arguably one of the most accomplished CS:GO coaches in the history of the game.

The fact that these solid pieces are already functioning well together in Vitality’s CS:GO machine means that flameZ’s job will be relatively easy. All he needs to do is play his usual game and he should be fine. Of course, we’re relying on ZywOo to continue to be himself. Otherwise, Vitality’s project will crumble really fast.
