LPL Summer 2022 has finally begun and the stakes are high. The winner, as usual, is guaranteed a spot in the Group Stage of this season’s edition of Worlds.

The competition will be fierce, not only because the Chinese league has the highest number of participants (17), but also because the region won three of the previous four editions of the League of Legends World Championship. To win LPL Summer, teams have to be amazingly good.

What you need to know about LPL Summer 2022

LPL Summer 2022 started on June 10 and will end on August 14. In between, numerous hyped matches will take place, which League of Legends fans probably don’t want to miss.

The recent Spring Split was won by Royal Never Give Up, followed by second-placed Top Esports. The Grand Final was an absolute thriller, with RNG coming close to losing after having a 2 – 0 lead. Li “Xiaohu” Yuan-Hao and his crew then went on to win Mid-Season Invitational 2022 as well, despite meeting T1 in the Grand Final. RNG’s victory over Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s lineup is impressive even without knowing the details. But considering that T1 won LCK Spring 2022 with a perfect record of 18 W – 0 L, the success of the Chinese squad is even more spectacular.

In League of Legends, the pecking order can change very quickly. However, given the fact that RNG has had a relatively stable lineup that went through only one roster move in the last 18 months, it’s likely to see them win the Summer Split as well. The other important LPL competitors are the following:

  • Top Esports
  • Victory Five
  • JD Gaming
  • LNG Esports
  • Weibo Gaming
  • EDward Gaming

Apart from these six teams, it’s hard to give anyone else a real chance of beating RNG in a Bo3 match.

Early LPL Summer 2022 results

From the first few matches, it’s obvious that the likes of EDG and Weibo are determined to maintain their excellent form and maybe even improve it. The road to Worlds 2022 is long and despite China’s 4 reserved tickets for the tournament, there will be many excellent teams who will miss it. That goes even without mentioning former Worlds champions like FunPlus Phoenix or Invictus Gaming.

One team that is worth following closely this Split is Victory Five. They won the Group Stage of LPL Spring 2022 and have the potential to win the entire race if they find their gameplay errors before their opponents can exploit them again.
