The Bali Major will be the last Dota 2 Major of the current Dota Pro Circuit. This tournament offers $500.000 in prize money, which is the standard nowadays for Dota 2 Majors, but it also offers a lot of DPC points.

These points value a lot more than the money because they can help a team to secure a top 12 place in the DPC rankings, which in turn grants a direct invitation to The International.

Features of the Bali Major

The Bali Major is scheduled to take place between June 29 – July 9. The tournament brings together 18 teams and offers a total of 3500 DPC points. This means that the fifth-sixth place teams in this Major will receive as many points as the winner of the Lima Major. Gaimin Gladiators won that tournament and received 400 points.

The winner of the Bali Major will receive 600 points. The competition still rewards just the top eight teams, so it won’t be easy for the underdogs to score points at the event. But if someone does manage to finish in the top eight after getting a good regional result, that alone could get them to The International.

For the team that wins the regional league and then gets a third place at the Major, the total reward will be 700 points. This is a lot of points to receive. Consider the fact that BetBoom Esports are currently placed 12th in the DPC rankings with 460 points.

Clearly, Valve designed the new DPC to reward teams more as the season progresses. That’s because a good result at the start of the season may no longer be relevant toward the end of the season. And you don’t want to see at The International teams that used to be good. You want to see the strongest teams in the world at the moment.

Like other Majors, the Bali Major will feature teams from all of the six official regions:

  • Western Europe: four participants
  • Eastern Europe: three participants
  • China: four participants
  • Southeast Asia: three participants
  • North America: two participants
  • South America: two participants

The battle will start with two groups of nine and continue with only 12 teams, eight of which will start the playoffs in the upper bracket. For the group stage, the round-robin format will be used and every match is a best-of-two series. For the playoffs, the best-of-three format will be used. The Grand Final is a best-of-five series.
