A collaborative cloud gaming/esports presentation from Vodafone and Ericsson demonstrates the elements necessary for 5G monetization. Visitors to the Ericsson booth at MWC can compete against teams from the Vodafone 5G Lab in Madrid using a high-speed 5G network in the augmented reality game HADO.

The community can experience the speeds of Vodafone’s 5G network.

From last February 27 until tomorrow, March 2, any visitor to the Ericsson Stand in Hall 2 at MWC in Barcelona will be able to test all their skills in the augmented reality game, HADO, against teams from the Vodafone 5G Lab in Madrid. All this is using a high-performance 5G network.

The main objective of this partnership is to illustrate the main ingredients for monetizing the 5G network.

But what is HADO?

HADO is an augmented reality sport consisting of two teams facing each other, throwing balls, and defending themselves with virtual energy shields in a real-world arena.

As we saw in the video above, this is an incredibly fast-paced game, so a high-performance, high-speed connection is needed to perform at its best. That’s where Vodafone’s 5G network in Madrid and Ericsson’s 5G network in Barcelona come into play.

According to HADO’s official website

“As an Augmented Reality (AR) sport, HADO puts the power of balls and energy shields in players’ hands on a real-life court. While the rules are simple, the depth of offensive and defensive strategy is infinite. As a result, HADO redefines the sports landscape to push athletes further than anyone thought possible.”

In addition to different demonstrations at Ericsson’s booth in Barcelona, the game will also help explain some fundamental ingredients in 5G monetization. We are talking about three essential elements which are:

  • 5G Standalone
  • Network Slicing
  • Exposure

According to Ericsson and Vodafone, these three elements open up a new world of monetization possibilities for the 5G network. Furthermore, they explain that they will be available to all communication service providers. The 5G Standalone and Network Slicing will offer everything related to network performance and security. On the other hand, Exposure will be in charge of opening different ecosystems, such as gaming providers.

According to Vodafone

“More than 190 “startups” have so far gone through the Vodafone 5G Lab since its inauguration in 2021 to create the 5G services and applications of the future in the fields of “Gaming,” drones, autonomous cars, and the Metaverse (such as Vodafone 5G Reality).”

This alliance between the two companies reinforces their determination to research and advance various strategies and concepts for the monetization of 5G. These were established with the opening of the Vodafone 5G Lab in 2021 in Madrid.
