Soon after it released the latest Dota 2 update, some professional players started to complain about the new reporting system, saying that it was broken.

For a while, nobody knew what to believe but it was clear that the system had all kinds of exploits that allowed players to target their colleagues and bring their behavior or communication score down in an unjustified manner.

The most vocal person was Quinn “Quinn” Callahan, who is known for his toxic behavior in pubs. However, after the release of this important update, his behavior changed significantly and he set out to be as PMA as possible.

For anyone who watches his live streaming sessions, his recent way of playing the game has been perfectly reasonable. But his behavior and communication scores got worse and worse, despite this fact.

In a very short period of time, he was no longer to properly communicate with his allies in matches because he had a score of below 6000.

Valve’s admission

Today, after carefully examining the situation, Valve announced some changes and gave Quinn a much better behavior score after adjusting the system.

When casual players complain about bugs, it takes a long time for Valve to hear them and fix the problem. But when one of the best players from one of the best teams in the world has a complaint, the entire community finds out about it relatively quickly. That’s why the reaction was almost immediate and highly professional.

Upon getting back his high behavior score, Quinn announced that “Reddit lost and human beings won.”

Here’s Valve’s comment on the situation:

“We’ve addressed an issue where some reports were adversely affecting player behavior score even if the report had no corroborating evidence. We’ve fixed the underlying issue and have retroactively updated your Behavior and Communication scores to reflect the change.”

Thanks to this bug fix, Quinn’s score is sitting at around 8500 in both categories. This means that he’s no longer in trouble. However, given is quick temper, the risk of him ending up being reported in the future in a way that’s demonstrably genuine is quite high.

This problem affects not just him but a large portion of the Dota community. Even though it’s just a game, Dota 2 is known to get people emotionally involved in the action. That shows how good the game is, but it can become very problematic when you lose.
