ESL One Berlin Major is about to enter the final portion of the playoffs. We only have three more days of matches left to enjoy and eight teams to watch.

So far, this tournament has significantly shaped the meta and will result in a lot of nerfs that are likely already scheduled for Dota 2 patch 7.33c. IceFrog cannot possibly let heroes like Medusa, Chen, and Doom unmodified because they’re either picked or banned in almost every game.

Doom

Doom used to be picked for his ultimate. But in recent years, he’s been repeatedly buffed and has become the ideal offlaner because he’s hard to kill, builds lots of auras for his team, and can accumulate gold faster than almost any other hero in the game.

In addition to all these features, he will also neutralize at least one key target in team fights.

At the professional level, Doom’s win rate is not spectacular: 50.7%. But he remains a highly contested hero, with 65 picks and 84 bans at the Berlin Major. In total, Doom has been banned or picked 149 times, by far the most contested hero of the tournament.

Underlord

Underlord is another offlaner that does a great job at protecting his team, farming rapidly, and creating massive problems for the enemy side. Thanks to his ultimate, he can help allies teleport with ease around the map, which is a huge advantage in Dota 2 patch 7.33.

Underlord has been picked or banned 142 times at the Berlin Major and his win rate is currently 57.8%.

Storm Spirit

Storm Spirit is another strong hero in the current meta and one of the reasons is the existence of other heroes, such as Pugna, Crystal Maiden, or Keeper of the Light, who can partly solve his mana issues.

When he is properly supported by his allies, Storm tends to become strong really fast and then cause a lot of problems for the enemy side. So far, he’s been the third most contested hero at ESL One Berlin Major with 56 picks and 77 bans. His current win rate is 57%.

Other highly contested heroes

Apart from the three heroes mentioned above, Alchemist, Enchantress, Slark, Rubick, and Beastmaster also get picked or banned a lot. Among them, Alchemist is the most successful, having a 63% win rate.

The most broken hero of the meta remains Medusa, whose win rate is 77%. Some ignore her, but to their own peril.
