For the third consecutive year, Nemanja “huNter-“ Kovac has received a spot in the top 20 CS:GO players of the season. Last year was really tough for his team but it ended with a spectacular result: first place at BLAST Premier: World Final.

When you win the equivalent of a CS:GO Major, the fact that you didn’t do so well up until that point becomes almost irrelevant. In a way, G2 Esports kept opening weapon cases and got just Mil-Specs all year. And then, right at the end, on the 100th try, they got that Exceedingly Rare item they had been searching for all along.

HuNter-‘s 2022 season in CS:GO

HuNter- has been playing for G2 Esports since 2019. At this point, he has more than three years of experience competing for this club and during this time, he’s seen a lot. One of his greatest achievements was bringing his cousin on board, Nikola “NiKo” Kovac.

Another great moment was the signing of Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, who ended up hard-carrying G2 Esports in 2022. But huNter- played his part really well in the success of the team.

With a headshot percentage of more than 52% and a rating 2.0 of 1.12, he is one of the best players on the planet. Of course, statistics don’t tell the whole story. But they do constitute an important aspect of that story.

In the Grand Final won by G2 against Team Liquid at BLAST Premier: World Final, huNter- had more kills than everyone on the enemy team and was almost as prolific as the top two members of his team, Justin “jks” Savage and m0NESY. Both of them had only a few more frags than huNter-.

What’s really surprising is the fact that quite often, huNter- played better than his cousin, who was the third best player in the world last year.

Right now, the Kovacs are playing well together and just as important, they’re supported by an excellent group of players. If m0NESY continues to play as well as he did in 2022, G2 are a serious contender for the $1 million events in 2023. The first of these tournaments will be IEM Katowice.

Recently, huNter- was named the 14th best player in the world by hltv, which is a great achievement. At the age of 27, he probably has four more years of high-level CS:GO before he retires. Hopefully, in 2023 he’ll manage to win his first Major. He almost did in 2021 but Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev ruined his plans.
