According to multiple international studies, the esports sector is one of the fastest-growing environments globally. However, contrary to what many people think, esports is not only for leisure and entertainment.
The strong impact of esports has generated that they are also used for other areas such as education and training, as it allows players to improve their critical and strategic thinking while developing a system of values that can be applied in all other aspects of their lives.
Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports
Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports is an esports competition aimed at university students in the UK and Ireland. Now, it has returned in the spring division to offer university students opportunities to develop professionally.
The winter division was attended by 1,000 teams from more than 100 UK universities. In addition, a dozen community gaming events allowed students to take their first steps into the competitive esports scene.
In the spring division, university students will compete in the following esports:
- League of Legends
- VALORANT
- Teamfight Tactics
- CS:GO
- Clash Royale
- Rocket League
- Overwatch 2
- Apex Legends
- Rainbow Six Siege
Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports is present in more than 20 countries worldwide and has a vital educational component. As mentioned, it offers students educational opportunities and their first experiences within esports.
University Leaderboard
One of the new features in this spring edition will be the University Leaderboard. This is a ranking system in which each team and player contributes to their university’s point total by participating in and winning games.
With the winter division already finished, we can see that the University of Warwick is at the top of the table, but all this can change in this spring division.
On the other hand, Apex Legends was recently announced as a new regular-season game.

All players can compete against each other to represent Great Britain in the Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports Masters. In this tournament, the best teams from 16 countries battle to be crowned Europe champions at the university level.
David Jackson, Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports UK & Ireland Country Manager, said:
“Our main objectives are to increase participation, create a positive and supportive environment for students and help develop the foundations of eSports in the UK and Ireland. After a successful winter split, I am delighted to begin a new phase of Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports in the UK and Ireland. This period we plan to step it up a gear: with the launch of the new University Tour on campuses across the UK, the continued development of University Rankings, more support for student society events, more opportunities for students to get involved and (details soon to be revealed) an even bigger final live event.”
Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports’ main goal
In a virtual environment, one of the goals of Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports is to get closer to the student community through face-to-face events. This is why the UNIVERSITY Tour is being developed. This will be a tour of many universities in the country to publicize the competition and give students an experience in the esports scene.
Registrations for the second division competitions are already open, and more information can be found on the Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports website.
