Team LDLC withdraws from the esports scene

According to the statement published by the organization’s directors, LDLC Group leaves the esports scene in July. On the other hand, it has also been communicated that the organization breaks ties with OL Group. OL Group is the owner of Ligue 1 Olympique Lyonnais.

The parent company, LDLC Group, stated yesterday, May 16, that the organization would exit the esports scene at the end of July 2023. LDLC Group’s parent company, LDLC Group, is a French retailer in charge of technology distribution.

About LDLC Group

The French organization LDLC Group was founded in 2010. During all these years, LDLC has come to have important squads participating in different esports, such as the following:

  • CS:GO
  • League of Legends
  • NBA 2K
  • FIFA

LDLC Group, after ten years since its creation in 2020, joined forces with Olympique Lyonnais. As a result, the organization changed its name to LDLC OL. On the other hand, LDLC Group collaborated with Tony Parker, a former NBA player who manages some esports academies.

It can be said that the French organization reached one of the highest points of its career in 2014. Team LDLC was crowned champion in the “DreamHack Winter Counter-Strike Major” that year. That same year, the team reached the top eight of the “ESL One: Cologne” and the “ESL Major Series One Katowice.”

For their part, many professional CS:GO players such as Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, Richard “shox” Papillon, and Kenny “kennyS” Schrub; credit the organization with helping them solidify their careers as professionals.

In addition, the organization frequently participated in the European Masters with its League of Legends squad.

Announcing LDLC Group’s exit from esports

LDLC Group executives have expressed in the statement that the organization has not been able to establish a significant presence in the esports audience even though the teams that are part of the organization have wide recognition and excellent players.

At the same time, in the statement, they also comment that they have made their best effort. However, they have not achieved the goal they were looking for.

Therefore, LDLC Group and OL Group have decided to end their partnership in July 2023. Due to the end of the partnership, LDLC Event also ceases to participate and conduct business in the esports industry.

The crisis in the esports industry continues to affect some organizations. A few months ago, we saw how certain organizations struggled with crisis; now, Team LDLC has announced its exit from esports.

The French organization has had to make staff cuts, in turn cutting investment budgets, due to economic problems.
