Riot Games is set to implement a significant upgrade to the bots in “League of Legends” in early to mid-2024, following successful tests on PBE servers.

Darcy “DashiJador” Ludington, a Riot developer, indicated that the Bot Beta tests conducted in September and October yielded valuable insights, paving the way for the full launch of the upgraded bots.

The upcoming upgrade aims to enhance the bots’ interaction with the game, including adapting to advanced MOBA mechanics. One notable feature mentioned by DashiJador is the ability of bots to interact with minions, such as “driving” the new Rift Herald, which could introduce an element of “bot rodeo” in the game.

This initiative addresses a long-standing request from League players for more interactive and educational bots. Many players rely on player-versus-AI matches to learn the game’s mechanics, and the current tutorial system doesn’t fully cover the game’s advanced features. The enhanced bots are expected to offer a more comprehensive learning experience by demonstrating key gameplay mechanics like jungling, ganking, and taking map objectives.

Riot’s development team has been focused on improving the bots to make them more effective in teaching players how to engage with the game’s various aspects. An August blog post outlined their plans for the bot upgrade, and more details are expected in 2024, including a full article and FAQ, before the update is rolled out on the main League servers.
