Riot Games made several important announcements in the run-up to the last VALORANT Champions 2023 games and, of course, the end of the season. The most important of them, without a doubt, is that starting in 2024, we will have a new competitive region within the VCT, and it is none other than China.

From the 2024 season, we will have, in addition to the VCT Americas, EMEA, and Pacific, the VCT China, a reward to a region that has shown spectacular growth in recent months. The Chinese teams were practically filler in previous seasons, as none featured in major international competitions. However, this season we have seen how EDward Gaming and Bilibili Gaming have managed to maintain a spectacular level of play and even beat top-tier teams in international tournaments.

Riot Games announces VCT China as a new region for the 2024 season

Through a video on its official Twitter account, Riot Games announced everything concerning the VCT competitive scene for 2024. In addition, VALORANT developers announced that China will have its league in the VCT circuit, so now we will have 4 regions instead of 3, as it was this season.

Undoubtedly, the China region has made leaps and bounds during the 2023 season in international competitions. The teams and their players stepped up; right now, they are among the best in the world. In the official announcement, Riot Games intends to “recognize the potential” and contribution of the Chinese community to the VALORANT professional scene. As a result, from 2024 onwards, we can expect Chinese teams to have much more influence and growth than we have seen so far.

Chinese teams in the 2023 season

As mentioned, this season, we have witnessed two teams that have played at a spectacular level, EDward Gaming and Bilibili Gaming. These two teams have excellently represented the Chinese region thanks to exemplary performances in international tournaments. Moreover, we have observed how Chinese teams beat star-studded squads such as Evil Geniuses, LOUD, T1, and NaVi in different tournaments.

On the other hand, speaking specifically about the players, we have stars such as Wang “nobody” Senxu, Zheng “ZmjjKKK” Yongkang, Wang “whz” Haozhe, and many more, who started to build an impressive legacy during 2023. Moreover, with the passion and high level of play, players and teams from this region have won a place in the hearts of many fans worldwide.

On the other hand, let’s recall that the official launch of VALORANT in China a few months ago was announced. As a result, Riot Games also announced that, for the 2024 season, we will have a VALORANT Masters in Shanghai, China.

The new format implemented starting next VCT season will include two VALORANT Masters before the VCT Champions 2024 is played.
