One of the best Carry players in the world, Alimzhan “watson” Islambekov, created a tier list for the Carry role in the current Dota 2 patch.

Entity Gaming’s Carry player, watson, took the Dota 2 world by storm after claiming the number 1 Dota 2 leaderboard rank worldwide. The Kazakhstani player’s smurf account was also ranked 4th in the European leaderboards, making him the best pub player globally.

During his live stream, watson was asked to create a list of the best Carry heroes, which he gladly obliged. He divided his list into three tiers: S Tier, A Tier, and B Tier.

Let’s review each tier and the heroes he put for them, including statistics according to Dota2ProTracker.

S Tier Carry Heroes

Here are six heroes watson placed as S tier, meaning the hero should be contested in almost every game.

  • Morphling (46% win rate in 2316 matches)
  • Templar Assassin (49% win rate in 629 matches)
  • Faceless Void (55% win rate in 3236 matches)
  • Luna (47% win rate in 2001 matches)
  • Slark (55% win rate in 1592 matches)
  • Naga Siren (49% win rate in 629 matches)

According to Dota2ProTracker statistics, only two of the six heroes watson mentioned have positive win rates. However, let’s keep in mind that a tier list is meant to account for biases. For example, Morphling is one of watson’s best and most-played heroes, which is probably why he put the hero on the list despite having a win rate of 46%.

Still, watson has a really good eye since Faceless Void and Slark are Carry heroes that are ultimately dominating the 7.35b patch.

A Tier Carry Heroes

Watson placed six more heroes in the A tier. These heroes are generally really good but do not always get contested.

  • Terrorblade (47% win rate in 347 matches)
  • Lina (52% win rate in 983 matches)
  • Monkey King (49% win rate in 527 matches)
  • Arc Warden (56% win rate in 348 matches)
  • Anti-Mage (46% win rate in 1578 matches)
  • Pudge (50% win rate in 351 matches)

Lina and Arc Warden have not been viable Carry heroes for a few patches now, but they have returned, likely thanks to the changes to the Maelstrom.

Watson also snuck in Pudge, one of his favorite Carry heroes. Still, this Pudge mention can be justified by increased popularity in high-level pubs.

B Tier Carry Heroes

His lowest tier is the B tier, where he named six heroes who can be good situational picks when the draft allows for them.

  • Chaos Knight (50% win rate in 30 matches)
  • Sven (47% win rate in 271 matches)
  • Phantom Lancer (49% win rate in 528 matches)
  • Ursa (47% win rate in 667 matches)
  • Weaver (48% win rate in 386 matches)
  • Windranger (49% win rate in 867 matches)

On average, the Carry heroes in the B Tier are played much less than the heroes in the S and A Tier, making watson’s tier list quite accurate. According to statistics, nearly all of these heroes have a negative win rate, with Chaos Knight having an even win rate in a small sample size of thirty matches.

It is important to note that watson did not place several heroes, such as Juggernaut, Lifestealer, Phantom Assassin, and Troll Warlord, because he has yet to get the chance to try them out.
