The second day of the PGL Copenhagen Major Elimination Stage developed interesting results, as it was the first day for advancement and elimination matches. MOUZ and Team Spirit are the first two teams to make the Playoffs, while The MongolZ and FURIA go out as the two 0-3 teams.

MOUZ and Team Spirit Lead The Way

As covered in a previous article, the young MOUZ roster dismantled Complexity in the 2-0 match for advancement. The match ended 2-0, with 13-1 and 13-2 maps resulting in a 26-3 series scoreline in favor of siuhy and the crew. Jimpphat, the youngest member of the roster, posted a 2.00 rating to bolster the team to the Playoffs.

Team Spirit and Natus Vincere faced off in the second 2-0 match. On Nuke, Team Spirit fumbled a 10-4 lead, allowing Na’Vi to come back with a 16-13 off the back of jL who dropped a 40 bomb. However, Team Spirit quickly showed the first map was just a fluke, and won the following two maps 13-9 and 13-7 to join MOUZ in the top eight.

FURIA and The MongolZ Fail To Replicate

In the Opening Stage, the two teams also went 0-2, but turned things around by reverse sweeping, winning three matches in a row to qualify for the next stage. They were once again put in the same position, but both could not claw their way back, and therefore, were eliminated from the event.

The series between the Mongolians and paiN Gaming went to a third map after both traded map picks. On Inferno, the two teams could not be separated, as overtime was required. After three grueling overtimes, the Brazilian squad outlasted The MongolZ.

On the other side, FURIA faced off against ECSTATIC in another elimination match. On the contrary to the previous 0-2 match, the two teams took their opponent’s pick, with Ancient as the decider. Despite losing the first half 5-7, the Danes bounced back, winning eight straight rounds in the second half to eliminate FalleN from the tournament.

Results From The 1-1 Pool

Other than the four matches covered above, the remaining matches were all played in Best of 1 format. Here are some notable results.

Eternal Fire demolished FaZe Clan on Overpass, winning the map 13-1. The number one team in the world is sent to the 1-2 pool where all their remaining matches are elimination ones.

G2 and Cloud9 met for the first time since the formation of their new rosters. On Anubis, electroNic returned to peak form, scoring 26 kills and 12 deaths to drag Cloud9 past the finish line. Similar to FaZe, G2 are also in the 1-2 pool.

Virtus.pro had a date with HEROIC, a team that was on the rise and beginning to pose a threat. Fortunately, Jame and the gang could defuse the situation and win 13-6.

In the final Best of 1 series, Team Vitality met Imperial and took them out after a 26-16 performance from Spinx.

Matchups To Look Out For In Day 3

Six Best of 3 matches will be played tomorrow, half for advancement, and half for elimination. The top matches to look forward to include:

Cloud9 vs. Natus Vincere

The former Na’Vi core will play against the new iteration of the Ukrainian organization. Perfecto, electroNic, and Boombl4 will face their former youngster b1t on the server. Both teams look extremely sharp, making this the most anticipated match of the day.

Eternal Fire vs. Virtus.pro

Eternal Fire is known to be a hyper-aggressive team, while Virtus.pro plays very passively. It will be interesting to see how these two teams with opposite playstyles will clash.

The remaining matches are mostly heavy favorites against clear underdogs. Hopefully FaZe and G2 will not drop their matches against Imperial and ECSTATIC, as a loss here means they will miss out on the Playoffs.
