At the end of a rough series in which they lost 1-2 against Quest Esports, OG got eliminated from the WEU Qualifier for The International 12. This is a painful failure that will probably put an end to Sebastien “Ceb” Debs’ career and force the team’s management to rethink their strategy for 2024.

At the moment, OG is in a lot of trouble not just in Dota 2 but also in CS:GO. It seems that an esports organization is only as strong as its players are and without formidable competitors, victory is almost impossible.

Back when Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, Ceb, and others competed for OG, the team’s results were phenomenal. But after they stopped playing, the situation quickly deteriorated. It’s been nearly two years since N0tail and others said goodbye to professional Dota 2, and so far they’ve proved to be irreplaceable.

Ceb is the only member of the old OG who came back to compete for real. But he wasn’t able to save the team alone, at least not this time.

OG’s elimination from WEU’s Qualifier

OG entered the tournament with high hopes and the plan looked simple: defeat Team Secret in the first round of the upper bracket, find a way to beam Entity, and then win either the upper bracket Final or the lower bracket Final. On paper, it didn’t seem impossible to achieve this, especially with Ceb on the team.

But the first match went poorly for OG, who ended up losing 0-2 despite having a significant gold lead in game 1. First they lost against a Phantom Assassin and then they lost against a position 5 Gyrocopter, played by Clement “Puppey” Ivanov.

This defeat sent OG to the lower bracket, where they won against Ancient Tribe (2-0) and Alliance (2-1) before running into Quest Esports. Under normal circumstances, Quest would have won the upper bracket. But unfortunately for OG, they got defeated by a complete underdog, Luna Galaxy.

Given Quest Esports’ results in recent months, OG looked hopeless almost from the start. Ultimately, they went on to win a game and had a solid performance in all three of them. But their opponents were simply much stronger.

After this defeat, it will be interesting to see who ends up qualifying for The International 12. But also, what OG will do to ensure that they’ll compete at TI13.
