With their second consecutive victory this season, Atlanta FaZe and New York Subliners have maintained their dominance at the CDL 2023 Stage 1 Qualifier.

After beating Boston Breach in a close series, Atlanta FaZe faced LA Thieves in their second match at the CDL 2023 Stage 1 qualifiers. FaZe completely dismantled the Thieves in the best-of-five series and secured a lop-sided victory with a 3-0 blowout sweep. On the same night, NYSL went against Los Angeles Guerrillas in an intense series that went down to the wire. It was NYSL, however, who eventually won the close fight 3-2 thanks to their composed and coordinated play in the decisive seconds.  Here is how the match unfolded:

Atlanta FaZe vs LA Thieves

Starting the series on Karachi Hardpoint, FaZe appeared in excellent form throughout the map. The team’s domination of the Thieves early on helped them take complete control of the map. Though LA Thieves tried their best to close the gap, FaZe left no room for error and closed the map 250-230.

LA Thieves put on a better performance on Invasion Search and Destroy but their consistent effort at comeback was swiftly denied by FaZe’s Chris “Simp” Lehr. With the help of Simp’s excellent fragging skill, FaZe secured a comfortable 6-4 victory to lead the series 2-0.

LA needed a desperate win to avoid a clean sweep, but they appeared helpless in the face of Simp’s fierce onslaught. Simp not only helped FaZe to complete their clean sweep with a  3-2 victory on Invasion Control, but he also set a record for himself with 42 kills.

New York Subliners vs Los Angeles Guerrillas

New York Subliners won their first match against Optic Gaming with a close margin, but their next match against Guerrillas was the most intense of the CDL. Both the teams posted excellent performances on the opening map, Karachi Harpoint. After a tough battle, Guerrillas found their footing on the map with a huge 248-193 lead. NYSL, however, mounted a brilliant comeback and took complete control of the situation. The team kept Los Angeles Guerrillas at bay and quickly ran down to the finish line to secure a stunning 250-248 victory.

On the second map, Highrise Search and Destroy, both teams provided similar performances and ended up with similar results, as NYSL won 6-5. Just like the first two maps, Highrise Control was also a close fight but this time LA Guerrillas managed to find their way across NYSL’s defense and secure a 2-1 victory to avoid the clean sweep.

It was another tight battle on map four, but the Guerrillas were able to steal the victory with 250-234, eventually taking the series to the final map, Karachi Search and Destroy. As with the rest of the series, the final map was another thrilling ride, with the two teams battling it out neck-to-neck. LA Guerrillas went their all in to complete the reverse sweep but NYSl denied them the honor and closed the series with a  6-4 win on the final map to win the series 3-2.
