The North American region already knows its representative for the tournament that will be played in Sweden from November 26-28, 2023. As in the European region, we had an extraordinary Grand Final and a pleasant surprise when Nouns Esports defeated Evil Geniuses by 2-1.

Unlike Europe, in NA, we only had 4 participating teams, so it could be said that it was a much shorter road to travel to get the qualification to Jonköping. However, the sudden departure of Team Liquid increased the chance for teams to qualify.

EG, as expected, started as favorites for this Grand Final and won the first map. However, Nouns woke up and applied a reverse sweep to seal their ticket to Sweden and, above all, give a new blow to the guys from Evil Geniuses.

Nouns Esports and their clean run in these closed qualifiers

As mentioned, only 4 teams participated in these qualifiers to fight for a single spot for ESL Jonköping 2023. Nouns Esports was one of them and had a clean run throughout the tournament.

In the first match of the Upper Bracket, Nouns defeated Evil Geniuses by 2-1 and applied a reverse sweep. Then, in the Upper Bracket Final, they again applied a reverse sweep, but this time against Forsaken, to qualify for the Grand Final.

On the other hand, EG had to fight from the Lower Bracket after their defeat against Nouns on the first day. Their first victim was Wildcard Gaming, whom they defeated with a resounding 2-0 score. Then, they applied the same dose against Forsaken to secure their pass to the Grand Final.

Nouns Esports vs. Evil Geniuses – Grand Final Recap

As we all expected, Evil Geniuses started as clear favorites to take the victory, and they did so by winning the first map. However, Nouns woke up immediately to apply a reverse sweep for the third consecutive time in this tournament. As a result, EG went home empty-handed, while Nouns sealed their ticket to Sweden.

It all started in Ancient EG’s map pick, where we observed an absolute supremacy on the part of the Evil Geniuses boys. In the first half, the Noun’s defense was able to win only 5 rounds, but, as they are playing in MR12 format, this could be very easy to come back. However, EG ensured that didn’t happen, and with a spectacular defense commanded by Paytyn “junior” Johnson, they took the win by 13-6.

Then, in the second map, Nuke, things changed completely because, this time, EG could not do much against the inspiration of Nouns. At the start of the map, Nouns gave a great show of quality and determination to take a partial victory by 7-5. Finally, at the change of sides, Nouns’ CT Side rose to the occasion and managed to win 6 out of 10 rounds to seal the 13-9 victory.

On the third and final map, Mirage, Nouns remained the best team in the series, and they made it known with a resounding 13-6 victory. In the first half, the Nouns T Side was phenomenal thanks to Carson “nosraC” O’Reilly, who led his team to a 9-3 partial victory. Finally, at the change of sides, in a back-and-forth that lasted only 7 rounds, Nouns secured his 13-6 victory and, consequently, his qualification to the LAN event in Sweden at the end of November.
