New York Subliners are the champions of CDL Championship 2023

After a historic Grand Final, the New York Subliners took a comfortable victory over the Toronto Ultra to become champions of the CDL Championship 2023.

There is no doubt that the Subliners confirmed their excellent form in this tournament, just as they did in Major V, where they also lifted the championship trophy. In addition, the team also managed to win the Major I played in December 2022; thus, the team made history by winning two Majors and the World Championship in the same season.

Subliners bounce back in Elimination Brackets

The NY Subliners started this CDL Championship 2023 with a bang, as they got a reverse sweep win over Minnesota RØKKR in their first game played in this tournament. Then, they defeated one of the favorites, OpTic Texas, with an overwhelming score of 3-1.

As a result, the team qualified for the Winners Bracket final, where they met Toronto Ultra for the first time in the tournament. In the Winners Bracket final match, Toronto stepped up and took a comfortable 3-0 win to send the Subliners to the Elimination Brackets.

The team then awaited the winner between Atlanta FaZe and Seattle Surge to play for a spot in the CDL Championship grand final. Finally, they played Atlanta FaZe and got a reverse sweep (3-1) to seal their qualification to the grand final against Toronto Ultra.

NY Subliners apply clean sweep against Toronto Ultra in the Grand Final

After the Ultra’s 3-0 win in the Winners Bracket final, we all thought this match would be much more closely contested and balanced. However, we were far from the truth, as the Subliners took revenge and won 5-0 to become the tournament champions.

It all started at Zarqwa Hydroelectric (Hardpoint), where the Subliners began demonstrating their power and current form with a convincing 250-84 victory. The teams then moved to Breenbergh Hotel for the next three games of the Grand Final.

First, at Search&Destroy, the Subliners again crushed the Toronto Ultra by an excellent score of 6-1. Then, in Control, the Big Apple squad thrashed the Canadian team for the third time with a 3-0 thrashing.

The Ultra were in a really difficult situation, as they were 0-3 down on the scoreboard and lost all their matches by real beatings. However, the team tried to wake up on the fourth map, and they came very close, as the Subliners had to fight until the end to win 250-236 on Hardpoint.

Finally, the last map of the series, Embassy (Search&Destroy), also left us with a close battle, but the Subliners still took the victory by 6-4. As a result, the Subliners sealed a spectacular clean sweep and, most importantly, were proclaimed champions of the CDL Championship 2023.
