LoL Esports has announced that the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) will be held in Chengdu, China, from May 1 to May 19, 2024. The city, located in the southwestern province of Sichuan, will host the event for the second time after Shanghai in 2016. The MSI is a mid-season event that brings together the best teams from various continental leagues to test the strength of each region.

While the format of the competition has not been confirmed, it is rumored that the double-elimination format introduced in 2023 will be retained. Notably, the winner of the MSI will qualify for the same year’s Worlds, provided that the team reaches the playoffs of their region’s Summer Split. This will be the first time that the MSI winner will have a guaranteed spot at the Worlds.

Towards the European Worlds

The Worlds 2024 will be held from September 25 to November 2 in three different European cities. The Play-In and Swiss stages will be played in Berlin, Germany, at the new LEC studios. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held in Paris, France, at the Adidas Arena, which was built specifically for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Finally, the highly anticipated finals will take place in London, UK, at the O2 Arena on November 2.

LoL Esports has already defined the number of spots each region will have at the Worlds. The LPL (China), LCK (Korea), LEC (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and LCS (North America) will each have three teams, while VCS (Vietnam) and PCS (Asia Pacific) will have two. The Latin America (LLA) and Brazilian (CBLOL) leagues will have one team each. The winner of the MSI will earn an additional spot for their region, as will the second-best region at the MSI.

Overall, LoL Esports has already set the stage for an exciting and competitive season in 2024. With the MSI and Worlds being held in China and Europe, respectively, the best teams from around the world will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and battle for the championship title.
