After assisting TSM in reaching their first Dota 2 Major Grand Final proving himself to be a capable coach, Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen is now officially the team’s coach.

The North American organization has announced the signing of MISERY yesterday, June 10, just one day before the team’s start at North America’s Dota Pro Circuit Tour 3 for Divison I.

Who is MISERY

To those who have been watching Dota 2 tournaments since 2015, MISERY needs no introduction. After all, he won the Shanghai Major with Team Secret in 2016, played in the Grand Final of another one the year before, and was part of the Digital Chaos lineup that challenged Wings Gaming for the Aegis of Champions at The International 6. His team lost that famous match, but DC’s run in the tournament was glorious. Many would rank it as the 3rd most spectacular underdog story at TI, the other two being OG’s in 2018 and Team Spirit’s in 2021.

MISERY started his Dota 2 career in 2010 and he was quite successful as a player, despite the fact that he never won a world championship. Some of the best teams he played for were Evil Geniuses, mousesports, Cloud9, Team Secret, Digital Chaos, and paiN Gaming. Now, aged almost 31, he is slowly but steadily becoming a reputable coach.

MISERY’s coaching career did not start at TSM. In 2018, he spent a few months coaching paiN Gaming before starting to play for them. His initial results with the South American organization were not great (last place at DOTA Summit 9 and The International 2018), but it’s hard to blame him for those results, as the SA Dota was far behind the rest of the world during those days.

TSM’s Dota 2 adventures

TSM is a relatively new name in Dota 2. The esports organization is famous for its other accomplishments in games such as League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. However, in Dota 2, they have yet to create a name for themselves.

TSM entered Dota 2 in force at the beginning of 2022, signing one of the strongest North American rosters. Team Undying had been around for one year and was well-established before they got signed by the famous esports org. Thanks to that, TSM’s risk was minimal and could be compared to the risk Natus Vincere took in 2020, when they signed the entire FlyToMoon Roster after Bogdan “Iceberg” Vasilenko’s team had already demonstrated great determination and skill.

So far, TSM has had more success than expected in the Dota Pro Circuit, finishing second at ESL One Stockholm 2022. The team is currently ranked second globally as well, having garnered 1280 DPC points. The team is looking at rather good chances of winning North America’s DPC Tour 3: Divison I.
