The Spanish organization MAD Lions, seems to be starting to make changes in its League of Legends squad for next season. According to reports in the last hours, Tomás “Melzhet” Campelos Fernández has a verbal agreement to join the team as the new Head Coach.

Melzhet is currently the Head Coach of Movistar Riders, another Spanish team, so this may be important for them to make decisions. However, official confirmation from the organization is still pending.

Reports affirm that Melzhet would sign as the new Head Coach of MAD Lions

According to Alejandro “anonimotum” Gomis, Melzhet has reached a “verbal” agreement to sign with MAD Lions for the next LEC season. This is excellent news for the Spaniard, as he would make a big jump to the top competitive LoL scene in EMEA.

Now, the possible arrival of Melzhet would indisputably be the farewell of James “Mac” MacCormack, who has been the mastermind of this team in the LEC for several years. On the other hand, this could be just the beginning of this MAD Lions roster reconstruction, as let’s remember that players and coaching staff are currently exploring their options for 2024.

About Melzhet

Melzhet doesn’t have much experience in the League of Legends competitive scene, as he started his Coaching stint in 2019 with an Academy team in Spain. However, he quickly landed a spot on the G2 Esports Academy squad as Head Coach, which helped him catch the attention of Movistar Riders heading into 2023.

However, Melzhet has never managed any LEC teams, so if this move is confirmed, the 29-year-old Spaniard would debut at the highest competitive level with one of the most popular teams in EMEA.

About Mac

The other side of the coin is Mac, ranked as one of the best Head Coaches in EMEA; he was part of MAD Lions for 3 years. He has been one of the architects of 3 LEC championships, led the team to two MSI, and finally played 4 Worlds in a row.

However, after a somewhat inconsistent performance in the 2023 Winter and Spring Split for MAD Lions, in the Summer Split, everything fell apart, and they failed to qualify for the playoffs. This undoubtedly led the team to lose confidence, and they arrived at Worlds 2023 with many doubts.

Finally, in Worlds 2023, MAD Lions had a terrible performance, winning only 1 match during the Swiss Stage (against Team BDS). This was the only victory of the MAD Lions in an international tournament, as they also failed to win a single match in the MSI.
