One of the most well-known North American esports organizations in the VALORANT Challengers scene, M80, is planning an expansion of its divisions to create a big Counter-Strike 2 team.

In recent years, many community members, including professional players, decided to leap to play VALORANT, Riot Games’ tactical shooter, competitively. However, with the announcement of the release of CS2 in the summer of 2023, many of these players have indicated that they may return to what was their home many years ago, Counter-Strike.

Likewise, we are all anticipating what will happen with the official release of CS2, as Valve has given no clues about it. However, in the last few days, some rumors have started that the launch of the game would be in October 2023, but the truth is that there is no official news so far.

M80 announces Syyko’s signing as VP of esports

In the last hours, the North American organization, M80, announced Donald “Syyko” Muir as the new VP of esports of the organization. Syyko comes from being the Head Coach of XSET and, more recently, Sentinels.

There is no doubt that Syyko will focus on the organization’s current projects, namely VALORANT. However, M80 plans a major expansion in its Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, and Street Fighter EndingWalker divisions.

Similarly, M80’s now VP of esports stated in a Tweet that he has big plans to form a top-tier CS2 team.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that there is still no concrete information regarding this Counter-Strike team that M80 and Syyko want to build. Let’s remember that M80 is a team known for taking local players very much into account, as their VALORANT lineup has four players from NA. On the other hand, the Rocket League team is completely North American, but the Rainbow Six lineup has several players from LATAM.

Hopes for the NA region in CS

Be that as it may, this is a great opportunity to raise the hopes of the NA region in the Counter-Strike competitive scene. Currently, only Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, and Complexity Gaming are the organizations that have teams in the NA region. At the same time, Cloud9, despite being a North American org, is composed of Russian players.

On the other hand, TSM is another of the important NA organizations that gave hints that they might join the Counter-Strike competitive scene. However, all seems to have been forgotten, as no more has been heard after TSM’s financial problems were announced in March 2023.

Following M80’s announcement of Syyko’s hiring as VP of Esports, the former Sentinels coach mentioned that his first mission would be to build a large Counter-Strike squad. In addition, Syyko also asked for help from fans to tag in his Tweets their favorite players who would be indispensable in this new CS2 team.
