Liquid and Tundra win the WEU Qualifier for DreamLeague S23

The Western European Qualifier for DreamLeague Season 23 featured a handful of strong teams and everyone expected Team Liquid to win. But nobody knew who else would qualify together with them.

Unlike the other regional qualifiers for DreamLeague S23, the WEU one offered two spots instead of one at the great Dota 2 event that will take place in two months. Competitors like OG, Team Secret, and Tundra Esports looked perfectly able to qualify. But OG and Team Secret certainly seemed to be the favorites.

Nobody would have thought that Tundra would be the ones to do it. But, thanks to an excellent performance by Pure~, Topson, and the rest of their roster, Tundra defeated Secret, Entity, and then OG to claim the qualification spot reserved for the lower bracket winner.

Team Liquid had zero problems in the WEU Qualifier for DreamLeague S23. They started the tournament with a quick 2 – 0 against Rest Farrmers and then defeated Tundra in two games that lasted 21-22 minutes.

They did it with Leshrac and Tusk, two heroes that are known to dominate the early game. Tundra tried a sophisticated combo: Morphling, Gyrocopter, and Tiny. But they found themselves falling behind each time.

When you have such heroes, you can’t afford to fall behind because you need map control and space to farm your items. Otherwise, your cores become useless.

In their third match, Liquid encountered OG and decided to use a strategy that overwhelmed the opponent with unkillable heroes. So they picked Dragon Knight and Io. In game 1, the fight was over in just 33 minutes.

In game 2, Liquid couldn’t play Io because OG picked it for themselves. But they still picked DK and combined him with Slardar, Batrider, Monkey King, and Disruptor. This time, OG surrendered after just 23 minutes.

After dropping to the lower bracket, Tundra started to take big risks and picked heroes like Techies. This happened twice against Team Secret. Against Entity, they did something even crazier. They picked both Morphling and Terrorblade in the same game, which is the greediest thing that you can do in Dota.

In the third match, against OG, they picked Techies, Morphling, and Sniper, and made the draft work unexpectedly well. The last game they played was a bit more standard. They picked Razor, Luna, and Brewmaster, and won in 29 minutes.
