The actions of the LEC Spring Split 2023 Group Stage continue, and we have that, on the second day, Team BDS and KOI shined to get their first victories in this tournament stage.

Team BDS proves that the level of play shown in the regular phase is no coincidence by crushing SK Gaming 2-0. At the same time, KOI gives the surprise and beats G2 Esports, who came with a lot of confidence to this group stage.

Undoubtedly, we had two really exciting matches, and, as observed, we could have some more surprises along this Spring Split. So now, let’s look at everything that happened at the start of Group B in the LEC Spring Split 2023.

Team BDS crushes SK Gaming and reaffirms its favorite status

Team BDS’ high-level display suggests that what we observed in the regular season was not a dream. The team that topped the table in the regular season started Group B with a spectacular and crushing victory against their selected opponent for this stage, SK Gaming.

The Spring Split revelation defeated SK Gaming by 2-0 to advance to the qualifying round. In addition, Team BDS dominated the Summoner’s Rift throughout and will now face KOI for the pass to the LEC playoffs.

Team BDS selected SK as their opponent in the first match of Group B, as they were aware of their advantages and strengths against them. The Swiss team easily defeated the German team, and the time between the two maps was less than an hour, indicating how powerful the team was.

The key to Team BDS’s victory was in Botton Lane, but Adam “Adam” Maanane’s Olaf and Darius were the standouts. In addition, Ju “Crownie” Marui, who played a fairly low-key role in the series, made the most of every opportunity he had in the Rift. The Slovenian shooter, who has established himself as the mainstay of the Swiss team, continues to be in excellent form.

KOI pulls off a surprise by beating reigning champions G2 Esports

While it is true that the reigning Winter Split champions, G2 Esports had an excellent start to the series, KOI was able to recover and turn the result around. The Spanish team advances to the Group B qualifier, competing against Team BDS for a spot in the Spring LEC semifinals.

KOI applied a spectacular reverse sweep in this series against a G2 team that, by all accounts, was still the favorite to take the win.

However, G2 Esports had to strike first for KOI to complete the reverse sweep, and they did. With an aggressive champion selection, G2 Esports destroyed KOI on the first map to start the series on the right foot. G2 selected Pantheon, Gragas, and Yasuo, and they easily won. With the excellent level of play shown by Martin “Yike” Sundelin and Sergen “BrokenBlade” elik, G2 was positioned to win the series 2-0.

Thanks to this comfortable win on the first map, G2 re-selected Pantheon for the second match. However, Kim “Malrang” Geun-seong woke up and, with an outstanding performance, led the Spanish team to victory. The Korean jungler shined and used his trademark Lee Sin to bring KOI back into the series. There is no doubt that Malrang was once again at the center of a KOI that managed to level the actions 1-1 quickly.

KOI secures the win with a tremendous push

After tying the series 1-1, KOI showed much more confidence heading into the third and final map. G2 Esports showed a desperation that we have rarely seen from them in the last two Splits, while KOI took advantage of every second to take the lead.

G2 Esports could not take advantage of Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle’s Jarvan IV, and KOI gradually annihilated their rivals. Malrang was again the architect of KOI’s victory, but he also had help from Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus. Finally, however, it was Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulos who managed to close the game as the MVP of the series.
