Riot Games has officially announced that the League of Legends World Championship Finals in 2024 will take place in the renowned O2 Arena in London.

After successfully hosting the Mid-Season Invitational in May 2023, League of Legends esports will return to the UK in 2024. For the first time, the finale of the most anticipated LoL tournament of the year is about to arrive in London. During the pregame interview of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Grand Final, Naz Aletaha, the global head of LoL Esports, announced that the Worlds 2024 championship game will take place in London’s O2 Arena.

The O2 Arena is the UK’s second-largest arena, distinguished by its vast seating capacity and spectacular design. With a seating capacity of 20,000, it aims to provide spectators with an exhilarating experience. The massive dome construction measures 365 meters in circumference, making it one of the world’s largest of its type.

In addition to holding important sporting events like NBA games and ATP tennis season finales, the venue is also known for hosting great performers and bands, such as Adele, Beyoncé, and U2. In contrast, the Copper Box Arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which could accommodate 7,500 people in total, hosted the 2023 MSI event. This implies that there will be at least twice as many participants in the World 2024 Finals.

Europe to host its fifth LoL World Championship in 2024

With the League of Legends World Championship taking place there in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021, Europe has proven to be a popular host location. Europe will host an event for the fifth time in 2024, carrying on a tradition that started with the first championship. The last World Stage that the UK hosted took place in 2015 at the SSE Arena in Wembley, which is now the OVO Arena Wembley.

The announcement that Worlds would be visiting London was so significant that even the mayor of London, an established politician with a full schedule, took the time to respond. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has said that the event would unite fans from all around the world and feature the “cutting-edge gaming industry” of the city.

Riot also disclosed that November 2, 2024, will be the date of the Worlds 2024 Final. Other important dates, locations, and venues will be revealed at a later time in 2024, along with the announcement of tickets. Even though Worlds is undoubtedly a much bigger event, London will also host another elite esports competition in 2024. A few months ago, BLAST announced that the BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024 will take place in Wembley Arena.
