The playoffs of IEM Sydney 2023 will be a standard six-team single-elimination competition. Four of these teams will start in the quarterfinals while the group stage winners will wait for the winners of these matches in the semifinals.

The five matches are scheduled to take place this weekend, between October 20-22. But who will be the winner?

Team analysis

A quick look at the teams reveals to us that only three of them can realistically win the trophy. Those three teams are MOUZ, G2 Esports, and ENCE.

MOUZ are the winners of ESL Pro League S18, a tournament in which they defeated Natus Vincere in the Grand Final without losing a single map. And let’s not forget, this was a best-of-five match. At this event, MOUZ lost one map against Na’Vi and another against BetBoom. But overall, nobody truly defeated them.

If their next opponent will be ENCE, and it should be, the first semifinal of IEM Sydney will be very exciting to watch. Both of these teams are in the top five at the moment and both of them have had some very good results in recent months. MOUZ are slightly favored because they’re in better shape, but ENCE could easily win the match as well.

G2 Esports have an easy path to the Grand Final. Whether their next opponent is BetBoom or Complexity, they probably don’t care very much. BetBoom have played surprisingly well so far, so they might beat Complexity. If they don’t, G2 have already defeated the team led by EliGE without any problems in the group stage.

The first two matches, which will take place this Friday, should be fun to watch. We have two giants, ENCE and FaZe Clan, competing in the first. And we have two underdogs, BetBoom and Complexity, competing in the second.

The most exciting Grand Final would be against MOUZ or ENCE against G2. No doubt, the Australians are eager to see m0NESY and NiKo competing against either of these two teams. Both of them climbed to a top five position in the last six months, and nobody saw them coming.

In a recent interview with SunPayus, he told me that his team had to change its entire approach to training, playing, and relating outside the game in order to achieve what they’ve accomplished in recent months. They’ve already won a big tournament this year at IEM Dallas. This could be their second.
