IEM Chengdu 2024 will be a $250.000 CS2 tournament that features most of the world’s best teams. In a circuit that includes plenty of $1 million tournaments, you’d think that teams would not be interested in competing at a $250.000 event held in China. But for the most part, the usual suspects have decided to travel to China.

Astralis, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, MOUZ, Cloud9, Monte, Virtus.pro, and Complexity will be among the participants. Of course, a few Chinese teams will play in the event as well.

Regional qualifier results

The Chinese regional qualifier featured just four teams:

  • Lynn Vision Gaming
  • TYLOO
  • Steel Helmet
  • Wings Up gaming

The first two teams on this list were the clear favorites ahead of the competition. And, unsurprisingly, Lynn Vision won. However, they struggled a bit more than we expected.

In their first match, they played against Wings Up Gaming and won the first map 13-3. On the second map, the score was tied after the first half but on the T side, Lynn Vision performed just a bit better and won 13-10.

By far, their best player was Zhe “Westmelon” Niu, whose score would make you think that he was on par with Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut if the match took place in the Grand Final of a Major. With 48 kills and 23 deaths, and a rating 2.0 of 1.89, Westmelon’s performance was phenomenal.

TYLOO also won their first match, against Steel Helmet, with even more convincing scores: 13-4 on Mirage and 13-4 on Nuke. But in their case, no less than four players made a substantial contribution and finished with a rating 2.0 higher than 1.40.

The two strongest teams in China met in the Grand Final and won one map each with the same score: 8-13 on Anubis (for Lynn Vision) and 13-8 on Overpass for TYLOO. On the third map, Nuke, the two teams fought hard and finished 13-13. Then, after one series of overtime rounds, Lynn Vision won 13-16.

This time, Westmelon was the worst performer on his team and ended the match with a score of 40-47. However, he wasn’t that far from the rest of his teammates. Everyone, with the exception of Junjie “EmiliaQAQ” Tang, played roughly the same.

Thanks to this victory, Lynn Vision will get the chance to represent China at IEM Chengdu 2024, and show everyone what this region can do in one of its most unfamiliar esports, Counter-Strike 2.
