There is no doubt that the whole community would love to see the teams of yesteryear return to the competitive Counter-Strike scene to remember those great moments. However, some organizations such as TSM and iBUYPOWER have hinted at their possible return to the scene, but nothing has been confirmed for now.

This time, we will discuss one of the most “controversial” organizations in the CS:GO competitive scene, iBUYPOWER. This popular organization has been out of the competitive scene for more than eight years, and, in recent days, they have hinted at a possible return with the release of CS2.

While iBUYPOWER did not mark a major era in CS:GO, during its two years on the scene, it saw many stars pass through its lineups, and, as a result, the team became known worldwide.

iBUYPOWER could return with the release of CS2

Last August 2, 2023, the organization shared a post on Twitter asking which players to sign if they formed a CS2 team.

For many, this post was just a joke by iBUYPOWER’s Community Manager. However, on August 8, the team responded to a fan and mentioned that they “might” be working on something.

Why did iBUYPOWER leave the CS:GO scene?

A thread on Reddit mentions that the organization did not pay its players in the 2014 season, so many in the community doubt this information is true. In addition, several community members reference the organization’s lack of money to sign five TOP players to compete at the highest level possible.

On the other hand, fans also pointed out that the organization has several months doing this kind of “baiting” or “possible announcements” to generate controversy on social networks. Even remember that iBUYPOWER’s reputation has been tarnished since 2014 when there was a match-fixing scandal.

At that time, the team had important players in the scene, such as:

  • Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham
  • Sam “DaZeD” Marine
  • Braxton “Swag” Pierce

They were found guilty of match-fixing in CEVO Season 5 Professional. As a result, Valve permanently banned all players except Skadoodle, who was not part of this match-fixing ring.

Likewise, it is worth noting that the organization was not guilty of this scandal. But its players were, so its name has been tarnished since that moment.

During the two years IBP was on the CS:GO scene, they competed in the first four contested Majors. Since then, their stickers on the Steam marketplace have been at the top in price and rarity. As a result, many fans would love to see iBUYPOWER return to the scene. Just so they can renew these stickers and sell them for a much higher price.
