Janne “Gorgc” Stefanovski is a well-known Dota 2 streamer. He’s easily one of the most popular ones and he used to compete with Team Bald Reborn in Western Europe’s Division II.

But after going 0 W – 7 L in Tour 1, he lost his Division II spot and hasn’t been able to regain it since. Recently, he revealed that at the start of the season, after Old G failed to qualify for Division II, he offered Sebastien “Ceb” Debs the opportunity to buy Team Bald Reborn’s slot. But he refused the offer.

A bit of context

The story came to the surface just recently, after Ceb decided to buy PuckChamp’s Division II slot. This clearly shows that Ceb was in part motivated by PGL’s decision to disqualify his team. It was a way of saying that if the system screws you up with its rigid rules, you can find a way back by abusing that very same rigidity.

Under normal circumstances, Old G couldn’t have bought PuckChamp’s slot after getting banned from taking part in the Closed Qualifier for allegedly mistreating PGL’s admins. But then again, under normal circumstances, Old G would have not been denied the chance to compete in a critical tiebreaker that determined who would stay in Div II.

A rigid set of rules is a double-edged sword. And as a professional gamer, Ceb understands better than most what it means to find ways of abusing that set of rules.

Old G’s chances in Division II

Old G will compete against a lot of relatively strong teams in Division II of Western Europe. Tour 3 could be a great opportunity to get promoted to Division I. But if they weren’t able to do it in Tour 2, it’s unlikely that they’ll succeed in Tour 3.

Among the teams they’ll have to beat are Monaspa, Nigma Galaxy, Alliance, and Into The Breach. Several of these teams have already demonstrated that they can easily beat Old G in a best-of-three. And in fact, they did it when Old G still had their complete roster, which was full of superstars.

Now they’ve started to make changes because some of the players no longer wanted to be part of Ceb’s project. Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok is out and was replaced by Adam “Aramis” Moroz, who is himself a good player. But will the new combination work better than the previous one?
