GamerLegion Secures Victory in Inaugural Tarkov Arena Tournament

In a historic moment at DreamHack Hannover yesterday, GamerLegion emerged triumphant, marking the first significant triumph in the newly established esports realm of Tarkov Arena.

This milestone coincides with the official launch of Tarkov Arena, now accessible to players who have pre-ordered the game or own the ‘Edge of Darkness’ edition of Escape From Tarkov. While Tarkov enthusiasts worldwide celebrate this development, GamerLegion stands out, clinching a €50,000 prize.

GamerLegion’s Victory Tale

Spanning three days, the ‘Head Eyes Showdown’ unfolded, offering a fresh perspective on Tarkov Arena. This contrasts with the intense extraction shooter experience of Escape From Tarkov, a game in existence since 2016. Tarkov Arena introduces players to session-based multiplayer rounds featuring classes, pre-determined loadouts, and smaller maps.

The tournament captivated audiences from beginning to end, with approximately 60,000 viewers tuning in on Twitch at its peak. This is a remarkable feat, considering Tarkov Arena had not been officially released when the tournament commenced. The success reflects the dedication of Battlestate Games in establishing this nascent esports ecosystem for Tarkov, a game traditionally known for its challenging nature, often deterring casual gamers.

Throughout the event, Virtus.pro appeared poised for victory. The five-man squad entered as favorites, maintaining a flawless record in the group stage. Their dominance seemed unassailable, displaying composure and skill at all times.

Yet, GamerLegion emerged as a shining star. In the Playoff round, Acend faltered, and Virtus.pro relegated GamerLegion to the lower bracket. Undeterred, GamerLegion secured a win against HEPTA, earning a spot in the Grand Final. There, they faced Virtus.pro again, seeking redemption and ultimately claiming victory, along with the €50,000 prize, in the inaugural Tarkov Arena tournament.

A special acknowledgment is due to GamerLegion’s Cocao, who achieved Tarkov Arena’s first ace during the tournament.
