The VCT Game Changers EMEA Series 1 has culminated after almost a month of tournament, and the girls of G2 Gozen ratify their great level of play by winning the champions trophy after defeating BBL Queens 3-2 in the final.

It was an interesting tournament where we could observe a great level of female play and marginalized genders in the VALORANT competitive scene. Everything pointed to G2 Gozen being the undisputed champions of the tournament, but they had to play for their lives in the Lower Bracket after losing to BBL Queens in the Upper Bracket final. However, this only reaffirms that this team remains one of the best in the VALORANT women’s scene.

G2 Gozen’s Road to the Grand Final

In the Group Stage, we noticed how the G2 Gozen girls, for the first time in several months, would have some high-level contenders that could make life difficult for them, BBL Queens. Nevertheless, the G2 girls finished second in Group A with a 6-1 record, losing only to BBL.

Because of this second-place finish, G2 Gozen had to start the playoffs in the quarterfinals, where they crushed Guild X 2-0. Then, with the same result, they sent Acend Rising home to qualify for the Upper Bracket final.

As mentioned, the G2 girls lost to BBL Queens 1-2 in the Upper Bracket final, forcing them to play for their lives in the Lower Bracket final. Finally, G2 again destroyed Acend Rising, 3-0, to qualify for the Grand Final.

G2 Gozen vs. BBL Queens – Grand Final Recap

There is no doubt that this match was the most anticipated by the fans, as it was the third time these two teams met in this tournament, with the first two times being victories for BBL Queens. However, in this grand final match, the experience of the G2 Gozen girls came to the fore, and they pulled out a 2-3 victory.

The series was played at Pearl (BBL), Ascent (G2), Lotus (BBL), Split (G2), and Fracture (decider).

Pearl

It all started in Pearl, where G2 Gozen began to show a spectacular level of play and enviable team play. After a partial 9-3 first-half win, the G2 girls managed to win four of the first six rounds on their defensive side to take the 13-5 victory.

Ascent

The teams then moved to Ascent, the G2 Gozen map pick, where we enjoyed a VALORANT of the highest level. Michaela “mimi” Lintrup made every possible merit to lead her team to victory, and she succeeded, as G2 made it 2-0 in the series with a 15-13 win.

The first half was entirely Mimi’s, who, with 156 ADR, 275 ACS, and 1.81 Rating, led G2 to a 7-5 partial victory. Then, at the change of sides, Nur “Eva” Çakır of BBL Queens helped her team to react, and thanks to that, they managed to send the match to Overtime. Finally, G2 Gozen was able to win the match 15-13 and place themselves just one win away from the championship.

Lotus

In Lotus, BBL Queens started to make a spectacular comeback; thanks to Aleyna “Vania” Keskin, the girls extended the series to the fourth game after a 13-9 victory.

The first half ended with an extremely balanced score of 6-6. However, the G2 Gozen girls could not stop the Turks in the second half and fell with a 9-13 score.

Split

In Split, the BBL Queens girls used the momentum and confidence from the win in Lotus to take an extraordinary and crushing 13-5 victory to even the series at 2-2.

BBL’s attacking side was exceptional as they managed to win the first half 8-4. However, while everyone thought that G2 could react in the second half, BBL’s aggressiveness did not allow it, and they took the 13-5 victory.

Fracture

Finally, the girls met in Fracture to define the VCT Game Changers EMEA Series 1 champions, where G2 Gozen prevailed thanks to an exceptional level of play shown by Maryam “Mary” Maher.

It all started with G2 Gozen very strong on their attacking side in the first half, with Mary as the main striker to take a 7-5 partial victory. The second half was a back-and-forth game as both teams won rounds. However, this completely favored G2 Gozen, as they were able to take the 13-9 victory to claim the tournament championship.
