Following the news that the Cloud9 “Colussus” roster has come to an end, Henry “HenryG” Grier has left the Esports organization. The Brit joined Cloud9 eight months ago to lead the new project, however with the team having failed to live up to expectations, it came as no surprise when the org decided to take a break from the scene.

The progress of the team was also effected by the Covid-19 pandemic, however HenryG’s ambitious plans for the team never materliased, with coach Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunovic having made his exit at the end of 2020. Upon joining Cloud9, HenryG stated that: “My plans for this team are certainly ambitious. C9 have entrusted me with their entire CS:GO dynasty and, honestly, I think that’s one of the boldest moves any org has made in a long time.”

Why Cloud9 Departed the CS:GO Scene

The team recently finished fifth at the ESL Pro League Season 13, outside of the playoff spots. It was partly because of poor performances that led to CEO Jack Etienne announcing the Cloud9 would be departing the scene for the time being. Etienne said that there had also been “undue stress and difficulties in providing bootcamps, housing, and the mental health of the players, largely due to the global health crisis.”

What HenryG Had to Say Upon His Exit from C9

It remains to be seen as to what the future holds for HenryG, who has already said that he will “be back eventually when the right opportunity arises.” It was appear likely that he will return to team management within Esports in some shape or form. Speaking on his Twitter page, HenryG posted: “Today’s the day that @Cloud9 and myself will be parting ways. Thanks to @JackEtienne for the opportunity and the players for their hard work and time. It’s truly a shame how things panned out with a lot of mitigating circumstances but plenty of positive memories, too.”

He continued by stating: “While the space is in this strange transition period I have decided to take a sabbatical and enjoy some of the normality that life has to offer. It’s certainly been a while. I will be back eventually when the right opportunity arises. Be good to each other. RIP Cobain.”
