With the completion of VALORANT Champions Tour’s first major international event of 2023, we have Fnatic as the team that took top honors by defeating local team and reigning world champion, LOUD, in the grand final in a spectacular series that ended with a score of 3-2.

Now, this marked Fnatic’s first major trophy since the launch of VALORANT, which was undoubtedly much anticipated by the organization. However, Fnatic’s championship trophy was broken on the plane ride home.

Fnatic’s trophy of the VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023 was broken on the plane

After Fnatic defeated LOUD in the VCT LOCK//IN Grand Final last Saturday, March 4, 2023, the team set off for home with the excitement of being the best team in the world in this first major tournament of the 2023 season.

Two of Fnatic’s top players, Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov and Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev, have publicly complained via their Twitter account with British Airways. This complaint is because they discovered the trophy had been mistreated during the flight home. Chronicle said:

“Special thanks to @British_Airways to handling our trophy securely 🙂 In this case it’s impossible just to break it, someone picked it up and immediately dropped.”

On the other hand, Derke also joined the public complaint and said:

“Someone took the trophy from our case and broke it during British airways baggage transit 😂”

However, after the hate that the community has launched with the airline and Brazilian fans, Derke himself responded to the message by saying:

“Guys don’t take it too seriously and throw the hate on the Brazilians or loud fans, we met with a lot of them and they were always nice and asking pictures, there’s always couple idiots in every country but doesn’t mean everyone is the same, could happen to anyone.”

The VCT logo was smashed

As we can see in the image above, the green logo symbolizing the colors of the Brazilian flag was broken. In addition, several of the green pieces of the trophy are shattered. On the other hand, it seems that the body remains completely intact.

What is unclear is whether the airline employees in question did not correctly handle this fragile package or it was simply intentional. Unfortunately, Riot Games has yet to comment on this situation. It is unknown if they will give Fnatic a replacement trophy.

On the other hand, the company responded to the complaint made by Chronicle and said:

“Hi there did you report this to the airport? Send us a DM along with as much information as possible so we can take a closer look. We’ll also need you to confirm your full name and contact details. We may need to ask you a few more questions for data protection. Tony”

At the time of writing this article, there is no new information regarding what will happen with this bitter situation Fnatic is going through.
