FC Barcelona have parted ways with their Rocket League roster after just one year, meaning that Aldin “Ronaky” Hodzic, David “Deevo” Morrow and Amine “itachi” Benayachi” will be looking for new teams, along with coach German “El General” Micciullo. Rather than this being a decision made by the players themselves or Barca Esports, it ultimately came down to the fact that FC Barcelona, the organization’s main brand management, chose to go in a different direction.

Despite having a competitive roster, the FC Barcelona Rocket League team was unable to crack the top tier of the European scene, with the announcement this week following good showings at the Rocket League Championship Series and The Grid. El General revealed that the Barca Esports division of FC Barcelona had worked hard in order to avoid such a move, however the leading soccer club ultimately felt that this was the right decision.

What Those Involved Have Had to Say on the Decision

The Argentine coach and tournament organizer said the following upon the announcement being made: “Many people will be asking ‘why’, this was a club decision, not Barça eSport’s. I want to reassure everyone that the esports section did everything they could to keep the team in the organization. As to the future, the boys will decide what to do between them. I will be heading back to Latin America and get my hands back in Rocket Street and TOing, doing what brought me into esports in the first place and what I love.”

It seems almost certain that El General will return to organizing tournaments upon his release, however none of the now former Barca Esports Rocket League players have announced what their plans are. However, itachi has officially put himself in the shop window for a new organization, with the three other players expected to reveal their cards in the near future. We will wait to see whether they try and continue to play together or go in their separate ways. Each player took to social media to thanks FC Barcelona for their support during their time with the organization.

What Does the Future Hold for Barca Esports?

It is now only Pro Evolution Soccer that is listed under the FC Barcelona Esports brand, with it remaining to be seen as to whether they will look to move into other scenes in the future.
