The VCT 2023 season is history, and the North American region is celebrating, as Evil Geniuses was crowned champion of VALORANT Champions 2023 after defeating Paper Rex 3-1 in the Grand Final.

Undoubtedly, this is one of the most unexpected results of this VALORANT Champions 2023 since we all expected Fnatic or LOUD to be the champions. However, Evil Geniuses had an almost perfect run throughout the tournament, and, in addition, they took care of eliminating LOUD in the Lower Bracket. On the other hand, we can’t take any credit away from Paper Rex, as the Pacific team gave a great level of play during the tournament, but they failed against the North Americans in the final match.

Let’s see what happened in the VALORANT Champions 2023 Grand Final match between Evil Geniuses and Paper Rex.

Evil Geniuses win the VALORANT Champions 2023

After an intense Grand Final between Evil Geniuses and Paper Rex, the North American squad delivered a blow to the table to take a comfortable 3-1 victory to become the VALORANT Champions 2023 champions. There is no doubt that, despite being an unexpected result, it is not something the team did not deserve, as they left everything in every game to become the world champions.

Paper Rex tried to spoil the party for the Americans, but their victory on the second map was insufficient, as they couldn’t overcome the VCT Americas squad.

The Grand Final was played in Split, Ascent, Bind, and Lotus.

Split

It all started on Split, Paper Rex’s map pick, where we had a really exciting match from start to finish. In the first half, Paper Rex’s Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee played a key role on the attacking side, leading his team to an 8-4 partial victory. However, all this did was wake up the Evil Geniuses boys, who had Max “Demon1” Mazanov and Alexander “jawgemo” Mor at their best possible level of play to win 9 rounds out of 11 contested to take the 13-10 victory.

Ascent

We moved to the Evil Geniuses map pick, Ascent, where we had once again an intense and exciting match, but, this time, it was the Pacific squad who took the win to even the series 1-1.

Paper Rex took a tight 7-5 victory in the first half, giving them peace of mind to face the second half. Then, EG woke up at the change of sides and put the score 9-8 in their favor, but PRX struck back immediately, winning four consecutive rounds (12-9). Finally, after three hard-fought rounds, Paper Rex won 13-11 and evened the series 1-1.

Bind

The third map, Bind, was a real cakewalk for the North American squad despite being PRX’s second map pick. In the first half, the defense of Evil Geniuses was relentless, and they managed a solid 9-3 victory.

Then, at the change of sides, the Pacific squad tried to get back on the scoreboard after winning the first two rounds. However, this was not enough, as EG’s attacking side was also up to the task, and with 4 consecutive winning rounds, they took the win on the third map by 13-5.

Lotus

Finally, the teams moved to Lotus, EG’s map pick, where we enjoyed a pitched battle from start to finish. EG wanted to take the win to claim the VALORANT Champions title, while PRX was trying to stay alive in the series to force the last map.

In the first half, Paper Rex stepped up, again on their attacking side, to take a narrow 7-5 victory. Then, at the change of sides, EG won the first 4 rounds to score 9-7. PRX woke up immediately and won the next 2 rounds to even the score 9-9.

Finally, the North American squad won 4 of the remaining 5 rounds by 13-10. As a result, Evil Geniuses became the VALORANT Champions 2023 champions.
