ESL unveils details about DreamLeague S20

ESL’s DreamLeague Season 19 is still fresh in people’s memory thanks to its spectacular Dota 2 matches. But DreamLeague Season 20 is right around the corner. The tournament will take place between June 11-25, will feature many of the world’s best teams, and will offer $1 million in prize money.

One thing to keep in mind about DreamLeague S20 is that despite its scale and prestige, it is not a Dota Pro Circuit event. This means that its results will not matter for the DPC rankings. Of course, the strongest DPC teams are likely to perform well at this event too.

DreamLeague S20 details

All we know for now is that DreamLeague S20 will feature 16 teams from all of the six official DPC regions:

  • North America
  • South America
  • Southeast Asia
  • China
  • Western Europe
  • Eastern Europe

The tournament is practically a qualifier for the Riyadh Masters 2023. This will be a massive esports event that might rival The International 12.

The winner of DreamLeague S20 will receive $300.000 in prize money. What is amazing about this tournament is that its $1 million prize pool will be distributed quite generously among the participants. Usually, we see the winner taking half of the money, while the bottom eight teams receive almost nothing.

But in this case, the last placed teams will get $10.000, while the 9th-10th place teams will get $25.000. This makes everyone’s participation worthwhile and certainly a lot more lucrative than any Valve event with the exception of The International.

Riyadh Masters 2023

Riyadh Masters 2023 will be a massive Dota 2 tournament, easily the biggest event in the history of this game with the exception of The International. And even among TI tournaments, only half a dozen of them were bigger than this one. That’s because the prize pool of Riyadh Masters will be $15 million.

That’s an absolutely massive prize pool. Previously, the biggest Dota 2 events, if we exclude The International, have been Riyadh Masters 2022 ($4 million) and Dota 2 Majors from around seven years ago. Those tournaments used to offer $3 million in prize money.

Giving $15 million shows real commitment to Dota 2’s professional scene. This game is not getting that much love from Valve these days, so ESL’s events are really important to get people interested in playing it professionally.
