The growing significance of esports

Esports in recent years has emerged as a global phenomenon with a huge audience. According to a report by Newzoo, the global esports market is expected to reach $1.6 billion in revenue in 2023. This large and growing audience makes esports an attractive proposition for international game organizers.

The Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta laid the foundation of potentially a big thing in online sports entertainment by introducing it as a medal event. Following the trend, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) introduced the Olympics Esports series featuring tons of games, in the month of June 2023.

Worth mentioning, the Commonwealth Games are also considering including esports as a medal event.

The rise of esports in international games is a positive development. It shows that esports is finally being recognized as a legitimate sport. It also opens up new opportunities for esports athletes to compete at the highest level and represent their countries.
