Elite League Group A Results and Impressions

Group A of Elite League ended with two unpredictable results. The four teams that qualified for the playoffs are Team Falcons, Azure Ray, G2.iG, and PSG Quest. The last two of them were not expected to finish in the top four.

OG and Team Spirit failed to qualify. In the case of OG, their performance was solid but they needed one more point to force a tiebreaker. It’s quite depressing to see them eliminated so early when the second-best team in the group had just 1 point more than they did.

For Spirit, this elimination was fully deserved. The two-time TI champions lost four of their matches, drew one and won just two. The other two teams that were eliminated are HEROIC (4 W – 10 L) and Entity (6 W – 8 L).

HEROIC finished 8^th in this group after winning just one of the seven matches they played. For Entity, the situation is very different. They won three of their matches but couldn’t draw a single time. Because of their four defeats, they only accumulated 6 points. Their four defeats came against the four teams that qualified for the playoffs.

Team Falcons (10 W – 4 L) had a great performance and lost just one match, against OG. This was their first defeat in more than two months. During this time, they played dozens of matches and had only wins and draws.

During the group stage, Falcons defeated Azure Ray, G2.iG, Entity, and PSG Quest. They drew against Team Spirit and HEROIC.

For Azure Ray (8 W – 6 L), the tournament started well but was not devoid of tough matches. The Chinese team won just three of the seven battles they fought. In the other four, they obtained two draws and two defeats. Strangely enough, one of the teams that managed to beat them was Spirit.

G2.iG (8 W – 6 L) had an unimpressive record but still managed to qualify thanks to the overall chaos that was present in this group. They won three times, drew twice, and lost twice, just like Azure Ray. Their losses came against Falcons and Quest, while their victories came against Spirit and Entity.

PSG Quest (8 W – 6 L) finished the group stage with four victories and three defeats. They were the only team in the race to finish this stage without a single draw. Two of the teams that defeated them are Falcons and Azure Ray. Out of the teams they defeated, only G2.iG qualified for the playoffs.
