The first stage of DreamLeague S19 is over but we don’t know all the qualified teams yet because in both groups, three teams finished the round-robin matches with the same number of points.

In group A, Execration, Team Aster, and TSM are fighting for the fourth position. In group B, beastcoast, OG, and Team Spirit are fighting for the third and fourth positions. Five of the eight teams that will advance to the second stage of the tournament are already known.

The winners

Group Stage 1 of DreamLeague Season 19 was really fun to watch. The teams showed us a lot of new ideas, but also some old ones, that we regularly see in pubs. The competitors that got the best results were the ones that are on the cutting edge of the meta.

Dota 2 is constantly getting updates, so even the TI champions are required to train hard if they want to remain relevant. Luckily for Tundra Esports, they seem to have understood the current meta really well because they only lost one match out of the seven they played and qualified with a record of 3 W – 3 D – 1 L.

The winner of group B was Team Liquid, whose record was 4 W – 3 L. A total of five teams ended the first stage undefeated and Liquid were among them. We rarely see so many undefeated teams at an event. The high number of draws indicates that many of the competitors are relatively close to each other in strength.

In group A, Gaimin Gladiators, Shopify Rebellion and Evil Geniuses qualified with identical records: 3 W – 4 D – 0 L. They drew among themselves and defeated the likes of TSM, Entity, and ex-HellRaisers.

The tiebreakers

The tiebreakers will be played this Thursday. The organizers likely anticipated that there will be lots of tiebreaker matches, which is why they scheduled a gap day between the first two stages of DreamLeague Season 19.

The first tiebreaker will be more intense because the teams are fighting for just one qualification spot. The favorites seem to be Aster.

The second tiebreaker is a bit more relaxed. Three teams will be fighting for two qualification spots. Based on the results of the regular matches, the favorites seem to be Spirit and beastcoast. But we shouldn’t underestimate OG either. After all, they’ve proved many times that they can surprise us. Their determination knows no limit.
