Former NaVi IGL and one of the best players in his position, Russian Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov, will play in the Thunderpick World Championship 2023 with Cloud9 as a substitute.
This move comes after the surprising announcement that Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov suddenly decided to leave the Cloud9 squad. As a result, Cloud9 had to move quickly to get a replacement to play the next two tournaments to be played.
On the other hand, this is a new opportunity for Boombl4 to prove that they can still compete at the highest level of play possible.
Cloud9 announces Boombl4 as a replacement for the Thunderpick World Championship 2023
Through a post on its Twitter/X account, Cloud9 announced that Russian IGL Boombl4 will play as a stand-in and on loan from 1WIN in the Thunderpick World Championship 2023.
. @Boombl4CS is our stand-in for Thunderpick World Championship.

As mentioned, this announcement comes after the incredible surprise and decision that sh1ro is jumping ship from Cloud9 imminently. Also, this has put the organization in trouble since they had to ask 1WIN to loan Boombl4 to be able to play the next tournament.
On the other hand, this also means that Cloud9 is currently without a main AWPer. However, from what we have observed at the beginning of the CS2 era, everything seems to indicate that AWPers will not have that significant impact on the game as it has always done. In addition, we also have the recent news that Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev is out of the NaVi lineup and is open to listening to offers from other teams, including a role change from AWPer to Rifler.
So what’s next, time to take break as I wanted but that’s only half of story
Need to fix documents and take care of other people in my life
About switching to other org : never thought about it but would be interesting to see offers, maybe on rifle since awp a bit not impactful…— Sasha (@s1mpleO) October 26, 2023
Finally, Cloud9 announced just minutes before the team made its tournament debut, where they are currently playing a BO3 against Fnatic. Also, at the time of writing, Cloud9 won the first map (Ancient) with a score of 13-8.
Sh1ro leaves Cloud9
Cloud9 made another surprising announcement a few hours ago when they shared the statement informing that sh1ro decided to leave the team’s lineup. Right now, the reasons for this decision are not known. However, everything seems to indicate that the Russian is not happy with the team’s performance, and he proved it with his terrible performance at IEM Sydney 2023.

There is no doubt that Cloud9 has been struggling since they assembled the super squad in mid-2023 with the signing of Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy and Denis “electroNic” Sharipov. The team’s results are not as expected; this is more than clear, but let’s remember that the problem is that they don’t have a defined IGL.
Now, with the addition of Boombl4, who knows perfectly well Perfecto and electroNic, the team intends to put a blow on the table to have a good result in the Thunderpick WC 2023.
