Ceb’s return to tier-1 Dota 2 hasn’t been successful

Sebastien “Ceb” Debs is the perfect proof that Dota 2 is not just a game of skill and experience. It’s also a game of grinding and keeping up with the meta at all times. If you’re not ahead of the other competitors in terms of your understanding of what works best right now and what the trends are, you will lose.

In Dota 2, there’s always at least one team that’s fully dedicated to mastering the current patch and winning every single tournament. Teams rarely last for more than a season at the top, primarily because they lose the motivation to train hard and play the game for 8-10 hours per day.

Ceb’s return

Initially, Ceb returned to the professional circuit with Old G. He still competes as part of that team but in Western Europe’s Division II. However, more recently, he decided to stand-in for OG at DreamLeague Season 20. And the results were not great.

In stage 1 of the tournament, OG played seven matches and finished with a modest record: 1 W – 4 D – 2 L. They only got 6 points out of the maximum of 14 and got beaten twice. The first time by Team Aster and the second time by 9Pandas.

Their only victory came against Entity, who finished group B in last place with 3 points. This means that OG are now one of the weakest tier-1 teams in Dota 2. Almost certainly, they will not qualify for The International 2023.

They will continue to compete in Division I of WEU next season, but they need to change their roster if they want to get good results.

At DreamLeague S20, Ceb mostly played the position 4 role. It’s not his main role and that was obvious in his performance. He didn’t play poorly but he didn’t excel either, as he used to back in the glory day.

We had the chance to watch him play heroes like Batrider, Earthshaker, Enchantress, Shadow Demon, and many more. But in almost every single case, he did ok at best.

What saved OG from a complete disaster was the best-of-two format. If the matches had been best-of-three series, OG would have lost five or six of them.

To be fair, the team wasn’t that far behind the top four qualified competitors. BetBoom Team, Gaimin Gladiators, and Team Aster had 8 points while OG had 6.
