Broky Wins the IEM Chengdu MVP Award

IEM Chengdu was a beautiful CS2 event that featured great teams like G2 Esports, Astralis, Team Liquid, and FaZe Clan.

After finishing 2^nd at PGL Major Copenhagen, FaZe were expected to do well at IEM Chengdu because many of the world’s best teams did not compete in the tournament. The list includes Natus Vincere, Team Vitality, and Team Spirit.

Eventually, FaZe Clan won the Chengdu event. But they couldn’t have done it without the contribution of two players. One of them was the team’s IGL, karrigan, and the other was broky, who ended up winning the MVP award for the whole tournament.

To get a better understanding of why broky won the IEM Chengdu MVP award, we need to look at his individual performance in each of the seven matches played by FaZe Clan in this tournament.

The first one was against Nemiga Gaming. FaZe won 13 – 8 on Inferno and the best players on the server were broky and ropz. Arguably, ropz had a slightly bigger impact, having an ADR of 93.2 and a score of 21 – 10. But broky finished with the exact same rating 2.0, 1.54, and had a score of 16 – 7 with an ADR of 77.5.

In the second match, against Astralis, FaZe Clan suffered a crushing defeat: 13 – 7 on Ancient, followed by 13 – 4 on Nuke. This was one of broky’s worst performances at this tournament but it wasn’t a complete disaster. His score was 23 – 29.

In the third match, against Cloud9, FaZe Clan won 2 – 0 and the entire roster played well, finishing with positive scores. Broky’s individual score was 32 – 25 while his ADR was 77.3.

Against FlyQuest, FaZe won 2 – 0 again, crushing their opponent on Ancient (4 – 13) and then winning Nuke 10 – 13 after a 3 – 9 first half. Once again, broky did well (31 – 20) but he was not the best player on the server.

So far, broky’s performance wouldn’t have been worthy of the MVP award. But that was about the change in the playoffs matches.

In the second stage of the tournament, FaZe Clan encountered three teams: Team Liquid (2 – 1), Astralis (2 – 1), and MOUZ (2 – 0). Against every one of them, broy was easily the best player on the server. Combined with karrigan’s calls, his shooting skills carried FaZe to another S-tier trophy in CS2.
