BRION, the South Korean LoL team, calls for the LCK to receive a sanction; similarly, sanctions are applied to groups that do not comply with the expected protocol.

The BRION issue surrounding the LCK seems to be far from resolved. The South Korean team has released an official statement, mentioning all the league’s problems; they also leave the door open for possible legal action in front of the courts in search of “defending the justice of esports.”

LCK Problems

In its official statement, BRION states that apologies are not enough; and denounces that, unlike what happens with players or clubs, the tournament lacks a mechanism for action in case of infringement of the rules.

The root of this problem began on February 5 after the LCK transmitted wrong information to BRION about one side of the Summoner’s Rift.

At the time of their clash, the South Korean squad, KT Rolster, and BRION were tied for third place in the standings. However, the organization informed BRION that KT had chosen the red side. As a result, BRION’s strategy was predetermined throughout. In the end, it lost the match 2-0.

On that occasion, the team learned of the mistake just minutes before the match. In the end, BRION decided to go ahead with the showdown, but, as the official statement reveals, talks between the club and LCK continued later on the phone.

By then, the league had apologized several times and suspended the referees for ten games. However, the team believes this solution is wrong and strongly accuses the LCK of blaming two individuals for a systematic error.

Similar situations in the past

According to BRION, LCK’s problems with side assignment is not the first time it has happened. The team complains that a similar situation occurred a year before their problem. Then, however, it happened in the Academy League.

Although the team knows it would set a “new precedent,” they have requested financial compensation for the problems suffered in the last two years. Should the league take such action, BRION has said it will donate the funds.

LCK management also has outraged fans

The BRION’s primary demand is that the LCK has a precise mechanism in case the league makes mistakes. In other words, when a rule is broken; the competition should have the same rights and obligations as the clubs or players.

According to BRION, if they had not filed a complaint about what happened, the LCK would not have shown any response. On the other hand, the fan community has not taken kindly to the unfair treatment BRION received outside the match against KT Rolster.
