In a surprise move, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announced that she is stepping down from her position this week. This announcement comes after nine years at the helm of the video platform, which has become a staple of the Internet.

Although she was not the one to make the announcement, the official YouTube Creators account posted a screenshot of an executive’s letter announcing the news. Neal Mohan, the platform’s chief product officer who has worked on the platform since November 2015, will take her position.

Wojcicki shared a more extended version of the statement on YouTube’s official blog. In that letter, Wojcicki states that he wants to “start a new chapter focused on his family, health, and personal interests.” Unfortunately, he did not clarify the nature of his efforts. However, he clarified that he would not let Mohan go.

The announcement was made on Thursday, February 16, in a post on YouTube’s official blog. In it, Wojcicki thanked YouTube users for their “dedication, creativity, and resilience” and expressed his gratitude for being part of the community. She also stated that she was confident in the company’s future and that it was in “the best hands.”

In that letter, Wojcicki states that he wants to.

However, he did not clarify the nature of his projects.

“It has been a privilege to lead such an incredible team.”

He further adds:

“I plan to stay around for a period of time to help Neal with the transition and will serve as an advisor to Google and Alphabet.”

“I remain just as convinced today as when I started nine years ago that YouTube’s best days are ahead of it.”
