Based on what we’ve seen so far at BetBoom Dacha, BetBoom clearly organized an enjoyable Dota 2 tournament that can serve as a good testing ground for some of the world’s best teams ahead of The International 12.

But the organizers probably didn’t expect BetBoom Team to get eliminated so early. With eight teams in the race divided into two groups of four, BetBoom simply had to finish in the top 3 to advance to the playoffs.

Unfortunately for them, they drew in each of their three matches. First against Team Secret, then against Evil Geniuses, and finally against TSM.

The rules of the tournament state that a draw gives just 1 point, the same as in football, while a victory gives 3. BetBoom had three draws, while the other three competitors had a record of 1 W – 1 D – 1 L. This meant that BetBoom finished the group stage with just 3 points, while everyone else had 4.

BetBoom’s matches

BetBoom started the tournament against Secret and was expected to win easily. After all, Secret are using a stand-in and failed in the regional qualifiers for TI12. Compared to one of the best teams in the world, what could they do?

As it turns out, quite a lot. Sumail “Sumail” Hassan proved to be in excellent shape and his Storm Spirit performance took BetBoom by surprise. Game 2 was a different story, but the damage had been done. This draw, against the easiest opponent in the group, would lead to an early elimination for the CIS squad.

In the second match, BetBoom started once again with a defeat in game 1. This time, it was a combination of pure strength, armor, and damage that overpowered them. Evil Geniuses picked a lot of heroes that are hard to kill in the early game and just ran them over: Sven, Night Stalker, Dawnbreaker, and Pangolier.

The second game went much better for BetBoom, partly because they were clever enough to pick Sven for themselves.

In the third match of the group, the story repeated: game 1 was lost, game 2 was won. TSM used the same trio in both games: Pangolier, Vengeful Spirit, and Marci. Quite surprisingly, this combination worked well against Sven, Axe, and Earthshaker. But it didn’t against a slightly different lineup, composed of Sven, Primal Beast, and Mirana.
