After two weeks of intrigue from fans, teams, and the LCS itself, the Summer Split has finally kicked off, and we have already enjoyed the first matches of the tournament.

While it is true that the offseason lasted longer than expected and the different teams made some changes for the second half of the 2023 season, all the focus was on the opening match of the Summer Split, Cloud9 vs. Let’s remember that this same match was played in the Spring Split Grand Final where Cloud9 managed to win the tournament.

However, Golden Guardians and Cloud9 are the only teams playing the Summer Split 2023 with the same lineup as the Spring Split. As a result, we perfectly witness a rematch of the Spring Grand Final.

Cloud9 and Golden Guardians give us a spectacular opening game

While it is true that Cloud9 crushed Golden Guardians in the Spring Split finals, things were completely different in this Summer Split opener. The match was evenly matched from the beginning until just past the half, where C9 could take the lead thanks to their superstar Kim “Berserker” Min-Cheol.

The match lasted 26:36, but within the first 24, neither team could take the lead of over 2,000 points. However, everything changed when Cloud9 started to win some intense team battles in Summoner’s Rift, and Golden Guardians fell apart.

Similarly, the turning point came in the middle of the game, where Cloud9 relied on their star, Berserker, to strike a blow with Zeri to take down Golden Guardians in their jungle. Zeri managed to sneak into the Golden Guardians’ jungle and did so much damage that it helped Cloud9 capture a Baron. Finally, the team advanced down the Top Lane to take the victory.

Berseker kicks off Summer Split in style

In Cloud9’s win over Golden Guardians, Berseker emerged as the game’s MVP, finishing with a 5/0/3 record and impressive moves in Summoner’s Rift. In addition, this marks the start of the season for Berseker, where he wants to win his second MVP in a row, something that has never been achieved in the entire history of the LCS.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that the Summer Split will have a lot of movement in this 2023 edition. The league wants to make up for all the time they lost due to the players’ strike that lasted two weeks, so the schedule was cut from eight to six weeks. As a result, three weekly matchdays will now be played instead of two, as usual in the LCS Split.

Cloud9 will close its participation in the first week of the Summer Split 2023 against Dignitas and TSM.
