ASUS has recently announced the launch of its new portable console, the ROG Ally. With this new console, ASUS plans to take on the Steam Deck.

The ROG Ally console will feature a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1080px. This console could be the biggest competition despite being smaller than the Steam Deck.

ASUS launches ROG Ally handheld console to take on Steam Deck

ASUS has announced the ROG Ally, which is a mobile device designed for gaming. This console is comparable to Steam Deck, but we can say that it is more compact and with some improved capabilities.

ASUS claims that they have finally succeeded in creating a console with PC-like performance. As a result, all users can enjoy a powerful console where AAA titles can be played anywhere.

The console makers have assured gamers will have a better gaming experience with a high-performance display. In addition, the ROG Ally is equipped to stay at an ideal temperature without causing annoying noise.

Comparison of the ROG Ally with the Steam Deck

The ASUS ROG Ally console runs Windows 11 operating system; it also features 1920 x 1080 resolution, 500 nits brightness, and 120 Hz screen refresh. The screen of the ROG Ally is a 7-inch 16:9 display.

On the other hand, we have Valve’s Steam Deck console, which has a 16:10 screen; the resolution is 1280 x 800, the brightness is 400 nits, and a screen refresh rate of 60 Hz.

As mentioned, the ROG Ally is smaller and lighter than the Steam Deck. It also features a D-Pad, two joysticks, and an ABXY button layout, arguably similar to Xbox controllers.

In the video posted on YouTube by Dave2D, it is claimed that the ROG Ally prototype was much quieter than the Steam Deck, where it was possible to measure about 20dB versus 37dB to Valve’s console.

The design of the ROG Ally is intended to keep the console well-cooled as it uses a dual ventilation system with a Zen 4 + RDNA 3 APU. With this system, the fans introduce air from the rear and expel it from the top.

On the other hand, the YouTuber comments that the joysticks and the SSD could be easily changed.

We do not know more details about the ROG Ally, such as battery life or hardware specifications; we are waiting for the official announcement from ASUS about their new device. But we can anticipate that it will be a console that many will want to own.
