Alliance and Nigma Galaxy suffer in WEU Division II

Alliance and Nigma Galaxy are both led by players who won The International over the course of their careers. In Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi’s case, we’re talking about a person who played in three TI Grand Finals and won once.

So you might wonder, why is he in Western Europe’s Division II? And why does he struggle to win, even at this relatively low competitive level? The answer might have something to do with KuroKy’s personal life. Of course, we don’t know the details, but he’s clearly not the same man who won TI7 with Team Liquid.

Ever since he created his own esports club, he struggled to get decent results. At this point, the fans barely remember just how good he used to be. It’s been four years since he played at The International and it will be at least five until he competes in this great tournament again.

Because of the way things are going right now, Nigma Galaxy have zero chances of winning the TI12 WEU Qualifier.

Putting things into perspective

One of the reasons why Nigma’s record is 2 W – 2 L at the moment is that Division II of WEU is full of great teams and former legends.

Ex-Monaspa (4 W – 1 L) are led by a former Major finalist, Giorgos “SsaSpartan” Giannakopoulos. Old G (3 W – 1 L) are led by a former two-time TI winner, Sebastien “Ceb” Debs. Other top teams, despite not having extraordinary players, are hungry to win and will train as much as necessary to be victorious.

For someone who is 30 years old and has a lot of responsibilities, playing Dota 2 for 10-12 hours a day is not a viable option. But that is guaranteed to be a setback in Western Europe’s leagues, because the competitive level is high.

Nigma are struggling at the moment but Alliance are doing even worse. Their 1 W – 4 L record puts them at risk of elimination. And if that happens, it’s likely that Gustav “s4” Magnusson will leave. The rest of the roster will probably get released.

It might be a while before we see Alliance competing again in Dota 2. And let’s not forget that this great esports organization used to win The International 10 years ago.

Like Natus Vincere and other famous clubs, it collapsed into nothing due to bad luck but also mismanagement to some degree. If you can’t find the right players, winning becomes impossible.
