ASUS is bringing the gods to PC gaming. The hardware giant has revealed the ROG Mjolnir–a Thor hammer-inspired portable power station.

The Mjolnir is the latest release in ASUS’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) gaming range. Although ASUS is well known for premium desktop pieces, for instance, graphics cards and monitors, the company has recently joined the mobile gaming industry. ASUS continues to deliver premium experiences for gamers on the go with products such as the ROG Ally handheld gaming PC and ROG Phone gaming smartphone show.

The ROG Mjolnir continues this trend with a robust, portable charging solution built with gamers in mind. As its name implies, the device is based on Thor’s mythical hammer in Marvel.

The Product Design Pulls No Punches

The Mjolnir might seem like a copy of the legendary weapon at first glance. It sports a black chassis and a large cylindrical “handle” sticking from the top reminiscent of Mjolnir. Even the proportions of the Mjolnir appear to be based on the hammer – a squatter, smaller body.

But closer and you will realize this is a lot more than a gaming toy. The front of the device is lined with power outlets – four standard AC sockets in fact. There are also two USB-A and two USB-C ports so you can charge a bunch of devices simultaneously.

An LED display on the front shows battery life and output information. Plus, subtle hits of the signature ROG logo branding let you know this power bank means business.

While pure speculation at this point, some leaks hint that the large handle could potentially function as a detachable LED flashlight or torch. ASUS may have included this based on theories that the original Mjolnir could summon lightning bolts. If true, it would be a clever nod to the source material while adding real utility.

Bringing Mjolnir’s Thunder to Computex 2024

On 2 April ASUS shared the news about the ROG Mjolnir via social media, burying suspicions that it was a mere April Fools prank. However, details and specs remain elusive.

We do know that ASUS will disclose the power station at Computex 2024, one of the largest tech trade shows of the entire year. Computex opens June 4 in Taipei, Taiwan, where the ROG Mjolnir will make its debut.

Given that ASUS’s teasers have been so far dominated by the design rather than the specs themselves, we should see some Mjolnir-worthy performance specs too. High battery capacity and beefy wattage output seem like safe bets to match the product’s premium, over-engineered aesthetic.

Going for a Portable Power Play

While the godly aesthetics are certainly novel, the core purpose of the ROG Mjolnir is to give gamers unstoppable power no matter where they are. When compared to the latest products and priorities for the ROG brand, this new portable power station starts to make sense.

With the ROG Ally hitting the market earlier this year, ASUS made a strong entry into the handheld gaming PC market. The Ally is designed to give PC gamers a way to take their full gaming libraries anywhere, without compromise. It is a decent substitute for the Steam Deck for all those looking for the best performance and flexibility in a small footprint.

Products like the ROG Ally indicate that ASUS recognizes the growing demand for gaming hardware built around mobility and versatility. While gaming desktops and living room consoles are still incredibly popular, more and more gamers want an equally premium experience they can take on the road.

The ROG Mjolnir fits that vision of unhindered, go-anywhere gaming perfectly. A big battery pack lets you crank power-hungry gadgets for hours without being tied to a wall outlet. It supports both standard power outlets as well as USB connections – meaning it should theoretically charge and run just about any gaming setup – monitors, laptops, phones–you name it.

Imagine loading up the ROG Ally or a tricked-out gaming laptop and all your peripherals into your backpack, then being able to game at full tilt anywhere you can find a place to set up. A portable battle station, powered by the mighty Mjolnir.

Gaming Without Limits

Despite straying from the desktop space that defined its earlier years, ASUS is doubling down on its gaming roots with innovative products tailored to the modern gaming lifestyle. The ROG Mjolnir fits that vision of unhindered, go-anywhere gaming perfectly.

A big battery pack lets you crank power-hungry gadgets for hours without being tied to a wall outlet. It supports both standard power outlets as well as USB connections–meaning it should theoretically charge and run just about any gaming setup – monitors, laptops, phones–you name it. While we still have to wait for final specs, Computex should provide those crucial details that determine whether ASUS has managed to create a true god-tier mobile gaming solution.

Stay tuned as we’ll be providing coverage from the Computex show floor with all the latest on the ROG Mjolnir and other exciting ASUS reveals. Power comes to those who can wield it.
