Days before Activision is set to release its newest battle royale-focused title Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, the devs reiterated users not to modify any of the game files.
In a Discord post, Activision says, they will roll out major updates, including security-related ones, as the March 21st release date comes nearer.
One issue in particular that they pointed out, however, is the use of field of view or FOV modifiers. FOV is defined by AFKGaming as the “extent at which players can see the video on their screen.”
FOV varies per game, and it is provided by developers for each screen size and resolution to balance out and equalize players on different devices. “An FOV modifier is used to increase the vision in the game more than the amount recommended by the developers. This gives the FOV modifier user an advantage over others as the player has a larger field of view than others and can easily gain a competitive advantage especially in games like Warzone,” AFKGaming reported.“We’ll be updating our security policy closer to launch, but generally that’s not going to say explicitly we will ban you for modifying FOV files,” Activision said.
They add, “however, it will likely say that it is possible to be banned or enforced on for modifying any game files, especially those that may give any kind of advantage.”
Currently, the maximum FOV rate allowed for Warzone Mobile limited release regions is at 90 FOV, but various content creators have been spotted using 120 FOV – essentially modifying the game’s file and qualifying into the category of modifying game files which can trigger an Activision ban.
Meanwhile, Activision has just rolled out another major update for limited release regions in Warzone Mobile on March 7th, or 13 days before worldwide launch.
Among those included in the latest version are graphics settings updates, fixes to weapon bugs (i.e. 45 round attachment for BP50 assault rifle being finally included), as well as other graphics and stability updates.
Warzone Mobile is set for global release by March 21st as the second Call of Duty-related mobile title, after Call of Duty: Mobile was launched in 2019.
